He was amazing in 'Citizen X'.

Very sad news, he was a great actor. He was amazing in good movies, and he knew how to chew the scenery in bad ones. A real professional.

The image I always remember when I see his name.

One of my favorites is where he plays Russian Col. Fetsov in Citizen X (1995 - HBO), based on the book The Killer Department. He and investigator Viktor Burakov (Stephen Rae) are hunting serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who killed 52 people. This takes place around the fall of the Soviet Union. 

If you haven't seen this film, you need to. Good performances all around.

I always remember his brief roll in The Italian Job (remake).  He was always a smooth and cool character. RIP.
