Bartman ball to be destroyed tonight

Recommended Posts

The infamous ball that was hit foul in the 8th inning of the NLCS last year when Cubs fan Steve Bartman reached over the railing and interfered, contributing to the cubs loss of the game and series, will be destroyed at 832PM EST this evening at Harry Caray's restaurant in Chicago. The owner of the restaurant paid upwards of $112,000 at auction for the ball, and the explosion will raise over $1 million for charity.

How are they going to explode the ball?

Then comes the final reckoning. Among thousands of fan suggestions for the act: having NASA put the ball into orbit, dropping it off the Sears Tower and having Chicago native Bill Murray, in "Ghostbusters" gear, obliterate it.

im sorry but they are right...your not suppose to reach over when the person going after the ball is able to get it...

thats just being a bad fan...

really the guy should have HIS balls grabed by a pittbull in public, on tv...and people to just watch...

WHat i thought was stupid about the whole thing was that they picked one guy and blamed him. There were a good few fans going for the ball and most fans would of done the same

I'm not into baseball (mostly because i'm in the wrong country for it) but i think that blaming one fan for a whole teams failure is a bit stupid, although I think that blowing up a ball will be fun!

I don't think anyone really still blames him for the loss. At that time, it was the most evident reason the team could not finish the game out. Had Alou made that catch, and you know he would have, there are two outs and the next grounder to Alex doesn't have to be rushed for a DP. Inning over, Cubs still lead 3-1.

The main reason this ball was blown up is because it's the off season, the team is improved so hopes are higher than ever, and it's going for a really good cause. I don't know of the exact numbers but I heard that they raised over $2mil for Juvenile Diabetes research. That's a lot of coin for one stinkin' explosion that really wasn't much to see and I'm sure almost everyone knew that to begin with. I thought it would have been better to drill a timed explosion into the ball's core. Set it for 5 or 10 seconds and have Alou launch it into Lake Michigan and watch it blow up there.
