are u running Xp pro and if so are u able to use windows update i read i few times that after useing the system files you couldnt update your pc

XP Pro SP1. After I update if a file gets replaced, lets say shell32.dll I just batchmod it / extract bitmaps, update the new shell32.dll & overwrite it again.
