Could Neowin include .webp for Images.

It's a Google format.

WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. Using WebP, webmasters and web developers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster.

WebP lossless images are 26% smaller in size compared to PNGs. WebP lossy images are 25-34% smaller than comparable JPEG images at equivalent SSIM quality index.

why? do you need a slightly smaller image or less compression artifacts for a specific reason?

Because some websites use that format for images, and it would be nice if it were added as an allowed format in attaching images to posts.  Instead of saving it locally, convert it and then attach it to a post.

I think when still supporting FLV, 3GP and WMV, this is a somewhat glib answer to a fairly valid question ;)

I was reading this as for the site, like why don't the images on this site use WebP, wasn't even thinking about attachments
