Warning, there is adult language in this video because I'm getting annoyed.

I haven't used Edge much in quite a while, but boy is it a mess now.  If for whatever reason gets taken off YouTube I'll have a link to the same clip on my Nextcloud:

I switched my bash script over to using Chromium instead of Edge and it's a much better experience.  Supports my bluetooth XBox controller for gameplay and menu navigation and launched the first time with no nonsense, no popups, nothing.  It just worked.

I have a first draft of the setup script available here if anybody is curious.  It'll work well enough for me, but obviously adapt it to your own needs as necessary.

I'm yet to get the Copilot Vision prompt in Edge, however I do agree out the box Edge is a total mess these days. So many settings have to be switched off / tweaked on a new install just for Edge to be usable.

I dislike the current trend of forcing Ai assistants into everything too, its just not needed... in addition does present privacy concerns if / where my data is getting leaked to.

I had two previous startups where I ran that same command and it took me thru different oobe/first-run setup processes.  After I finished those and went ahead and signed into my Microsoft account (since I was gonna use it to stream XBox anyway), the next time I ran my command, instead of doing what I wanted, I got whatever in the heck that thing was that started talking to me.

I installed regular Chromium, told it to go to that URL in kiosk mode and it did exactly, and ONLY that.  No sign in requests, no data syncing setup, no CoPilot or AI nonsense, nothing.  It just opened in kiosk mode and went to the site I told it to.

Edge was already decent on its own, but all this forced CoPilot/AI bloat just makes it feel heavy and annoying. Microsoft really needs to give users the option to disable it instead of shoving it down everyone’s throat.

When Edge relaunched, it really was a great browser. It was fast & light, everything you want from a browser, but now it's a bloated mess.

It's still reasonably quick, but you have to turn off so many things out of the box. And the AI garbage, ugh.

Many users feel Microsoft Edge struggles because the CoPilot AI integration can be intrusive, slow, or inaccurate, affecting the browser’s performance and usability.

This comment sounds like something straight out of ChatGPT, which is ironic given the nature of this topic, :-p

    • If Exexutives are far from reallity, something that is said about many companies and their leadershiñ Then how are these companies still standing?? I wonder if you are out of reallity. Those companies are in a general sense still growing.
    • These days we don't need adware. They call it Telemetry and steal everything that they want to sell anyway 🤷‍♂️   Oh, I also have a (fully paid for) version of Adobe CS4 running in a VM that I still use a lot still. I managed to get it installed into a VM before they disabled the activation servers. I cannot legally install something that I paid for now... and I'll never give another penny to Adobe because of it. Screw your subscriptions Adobe!
    • Sysinternals Suite 2026.09.07 by Razvan Serea The Sysinternals Suite is a comprehensive package of advanced Windows utilities created by Mark Russinovich, who launched the Sysinternals website in 1996 to share his system tools and technical resources. This suite combines a wide range of troubleshooting and diagnostic tools, including Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Sysmon, Autoruns, ProcDump, the PsTools collection, and many others. It provides everything IT professionals and developers need to manage, monitor, and troubleshoot Windows systems and applications. The Suite bundles all of the core troubleshooting utilities along with their help files. Non-troubleshooting extras—such as the BSOD Screen Saver or NotMyFault—are excluded. In addition to the well-known tools, it also includes AccessChk, Autologon, Ctrl2Cap, DiskView, Disk Usage (DU), LogonSessions, PageDefrag, PsLogList, PsPasswd, RegMon, RootkitRevealer, TCPView, VMMap, ZoomIt, and more. Sysinternals Suite 2026.09.07 changelog: LiveKd v5.65 - This update to LiveKd, a utility that allows running the kernel debugger on a live system, protects generated dump files from non-admin readers. ProcDump v12.01 - This update to ProcDump, a command-line utility for generating memory dumps from running processes, adds bug fixes. ZoomIt v12.11 - This update to ZoomIt, a screen magnification and annotation tool, adds JPEG and WEBP snip support. • So, this is a deal on a bundle of applications for macOS... but the graphic shows an iPhone and an iPad. I know Neowin has graphics for Macs, especially Macbooks, since they get inserted into random articles to represent PCs even when it's a Windows product - so how is it possible to screw up an actual Apple-specific Mac-specific article? Worse, there's an Apple Pencil with the iPad, something no Mac has or can do.
    • Good news! Sure you can't actually afford to buy one of their GPUs anymore, but now you can get free trading cards to *remind* you of the GPUs you can no longer buy or afford. Hey Nvidia, can a company BE more tone deaf?
