Music app, Android

Question

I'm interested in finding a music app, for Android... (currently on 15)... that allows sorting by track number.

I've purchased Muzio Player, but that only sorts by track when you first install it... if you change it, you can never go back. Plus, now that app hijacks your phone calls to place ads and some kind of virus scanner... for, every, call.. incoming or outgoing.

I've tried Omnia... great app, but only sorts via the alphabet thus throwing the engineering design of the CD release right out the window.

I've tried VLC.. but the audio section in that just blows chunks... barely recognizes half the library on the phone, it skips the first three seconds of any song.. and only has two choices, either play one after the other, or one at a time.

The app should support any format and up to 24bit (which Omnia does, but alas...).

Any suggestions? Paid app or not, any are welcome.

Musicolet is free, has a lot of features and doesn't require the internet permission.

You can also sort by track number and many more ways that won't fit in a single screenshot:

I will give them all a shot... I did try Foobar2000... loved the PC app when I was ripping my CD collection to FLAC, well, that and XRecode3.

Found out, also, the hard way... that these apps don't generally like track numbers like:

1, 2, 3, 4... etc, but rather

01, 02, 03, 04... so I spent the better part of last night redoing my library so they do show up as an option. Omnia, however, doesn't allow my EQ app to be detected, so that will be hurdle number 2. It's the Coocent EQ and picks up most app players.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I used MediaMonkey (Android). Another good choice in my opinion. It works well with large libraries and gives you control over sort order and metadata.
I think you should also try Poweramp. I've seen a lot of good reviews. Also, if configured correctly, it takes track numbers into account, not the default alphabetical order.

They tend to treat them as string and not integers.  I did the same - and now I know, always normalise my numbering.

Forgot about MediaMonkey, and that was my go to app for organizing, metadata (before I started using MP3Tag)... and the best way for me to upload songs to Apple products without having to use iTunes (sans the driver installation).

Thank you.

I found an audiophile app called USB Audio Player PRO.

There's a monster of a player, no doubt.

While the main features of that player would sit stagnant, alike that of my AE-5 for the PC... she's great for gaming (headset), but sits on her hands with little to do because I live too close to neighbors to have that audio card really stretch her legs (thru a power amp/speakers).

Great find... thank you.

I am currently trying to get used to Foobar2000 again, but the UI looks like it was designed in 3rd grade art class... easy to see and use, but not all that interesting to look at.

I'll give this a go as well, thank you.

Running BlackPlayer over here.
Works great for my needs.

Hello,

I use BlackPlayer as well (the paid-for version), but I have an issue with it when paired with CarPlay.

When I went looking for support, I found it is a sole developer, that they haven't released an update in a while, and that there doesn't seem to be any way to contact them.

I have a feeling a lot of apps are single digit developers.
Don't use Carplay (car is too old LOL) so don't know about that.
But the app works fine, and not really in need for updates on my end.

Yeah... that was the problem with Muzik Player... it's a great app, or was.

Worked the way I wanted it too... sorted the songs the way I wanted and it allows for external EQ... but then an update happened, and suddenly without notice... it was intercepting my phone calls to run ads and a virus scan. Ticked me off. If I turned that feature off, you couldn't use the app any more. I bought a license for it, but never thought it was going to turn into some cheap security app.

Can't edit that post, but it's Muzio Player, not Muzik.  😅 I mean, it still works great on my second phone that doesn't have a SIM card in it, so doesn't trigger the ad/virus crap.

In one of our vehicles, 2007 model... I have to use an external bluetooth adapter for the radio, however our newer one has built in BT... but I don't think it's supported by CarPlay. I would probably use it if it had it, seeing as there's more to the phone than just music.

It sounds like you’ve already tried a lot of apps! For sorting by track number and good audio quality, I’d recommend Poweramp. It’s one of the most popular music players on Android, and it supports all kinds of audio formats, including up to 24-bit. You can sort your music by track number, and it has a lot of customization options to improve your listening experience. It’s a paid app, but the features are definitely worth it.

Another option is PlayerPro Music Player. It’s also well-known, supports various formats, and allows sorting by track number. Plus, it has a nice interface and supports high-quality audio playback.

Both should fix the sorting issue you had with other apps and give you a better overall experience. Hope this helps!

    • Formatting would be awesome if fully customised and then roll out the settings as a company wide standard.
    • I just want to know why the volume control feature in the browser version keeps appearing then disappearing, here today - gone tomorrow. Now it's gone again. Annoying as hell.
    • When you have only lies and blood libels to present, you've lost. And how hard is it for you to look up BBC and AP? You hate Jews, just admit it.
    • This article does not make sense and it’s very evident, the bug wasn’t confirmed to exist, because the application itself runs on editions of Windows which make it impossible to run Hyper-V VMs on, “Basically, Claude Desktop on Windows spins up a 1.8GB Hyper-V virtual machine if you use Claude Cowork or agent mode even once.”, suggests the bug is caused by something else otherwise it would only happen to users with the capability of running Hyper-V VMs and that’s only if Hyper-V was enabled which is by default not enabled. The true issue is that the author who reported the bug used the incorrect terminology, it’s actually a container, not a VM that is being started by the way. There were users on macOS reporting the same issue, Hyper-V, doesn’t exist on that platform obviously. Every single user who confirmed the problem in the last week was either using macOS making this issue impossible to be relevant to them, or was a comment talking about WSL, which the author indicated 3 months ago was disabled.
    • “To prevent hallucination issues and keep the database clean, the platform uses a multi-agent verification loop to check code quality.” - This absolutely isn’t happening. ”Before the massive rise of LLMs, which tanked its traffic by about 50% over the last couple of years, Stack Overflow was the go-to website for millions of programmers seeking coding solutions.” - It still is trusted, because the community of users, blocked other users from submitting false and misleading answers generated by AI agents that can be convinced something it generated is actually incorrect even if it’s actually correct. The company itself doesn’t know what it wants to be so it keeps trying and failing to introduce AI features to the platform. This effort will also fail, already submitted one successful poison pill, look forward to generating more.
