Battery life issues on Samsung phone

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have a Samsung phone, and recently the battery hasn’t been holding a charge as well. Are there any methods to extend battery life? I know that using it less helps, but are there settings I can adjust? I have a lot of apps on my phone, most of which I don’t use all the time. Could they be running in the background and draining the battery, or is it something else?

It would help a lot in telling us which Samsung phone model you're using.

Have you gone to Settings > Battery to see what apps are running in the background?

I actually looked this up for myself today. I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and I'm not on it all day (because I WFH) but I noticed the charge will only hold for a day with light use (maybe an hour video use in that time) and I have Samsung Health always monitoring and Tailscale always on DNS and my battery health is down to 93% after two and a half years.

However I have read stories on reddit that the same phone is only holding half a day charge for some people since upgrading to OneUI 7, and it makes me think if Samsung is doing the old planned obsolesce tricks.

It is like my Galaxy Watch6 (two days battery life, down from 2.5 days before OneUI 6 update) can seemingly no longer track a full night's sleep since the Watch7 and 8 came out, and the Galaxy Ring is as bad.

The one thing I can suggest is that whenever your phone receives an update (or if you haven't done this since last update), go into recovery mode and wipe the cache partition. This can fix battery issues. Another one is to disable battery protection and fully charge to 100% and then let it completely discharge, then charge it to 100% again, and let it completely discharge again; and both times do not charge at any point. Once you have charged to 100% and let it discharge twice without charging in between, your battery should be recalibrated. By the way it is also recommended not to repeat this step frequently because that can damage the battery as well. A recalibration should only be done once every six months, for example.

What's the model of the Samsung phone?

I changed my phone a couple of months back because the battery was only just getting me through a day. Constantly looking for the nearest wall socket was getting tiresome.

But in my old phone's defence, it had been doing me well for...5-ish years.

Depending on the model of your phone, you could pay to get a new battery or get a new phone. If you have had the phone for less than 6 months though, I would contact Samsung and explain the situation to them.

Thanks for your answers! I have a Samsung Galaxy A24. It’s not the newest model, and I’ve had it for about three years now. I can’t really complain, it still works pretty well for its age. That said, this isn’t my first Samsung, and they all tend to hold a charge worse over time.
I just figured maybe regularly checking and disabling unnecessary apps might help save a bit of battery.

My Galaxy S25 have to charge at least once a day if not more, but i tend to the do the following tasks on it daily.

Digital Police & Fire Scanner app on from when i wake up til i typically goto bed at night

Texting

Email

And OverNight ASMR Relaxation audio played thru VLC Media Player.     and yes i check charge before i start the audio, and when cat wakes me for food around 6am, i check it again, and if its near 20 percent, then i charge it, and check it again fairly often to make sure i don't miss when its fully charged up to where its set

Sometimes Video watching at night before sleeping if i don't wanna watch the actual tv for some reason or another.   or sometimes when i wake up in the morning with My USB C headset adapter, or Galaxy Buds

Let it charge down only to 20 percent,, and re charge only back up to 80 percent to pro long the battery life

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for seven more games as discounts continue by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe There's a brand-new update rolling out to Nvidia's GeForce NOW streaming service, and like every week, that means more games have received support on the platform. This week's drop has additions like Aphelion and Pro Cycling Manager 26 attached to it. Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active too. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Moreover, Nvidia reiterated that support for GOG single sign-in and game library is incoming this summer, joining stores like Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and Xbox. "Connect supported game store accounts and stream titles with GeForce RTX power. Games that include cloud-save functionality help keep progress intact across devices," added the company. "Start a game on one screen, pick up where playtime left off on another, and spend less time managing installs and storage space." Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Embers of the Uncrowned Demo (New release on Steam, available 13) Pro Cycling Manager 26 (New release on Steam, available June 15) Aphelion (Steam) Citizen Sleeper (Epic Game Store, Free from June 18-25) Megastore Simulator (Steam) OPERATOR (Steam) Super Meat Boy 3D (Xbox, available on Game Pass) Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month, with extra time being purchasable in chunks.
