I've just done a test by liking this post, but I'm not seeing the same thing.

What browser are you using?

Does that "ximes;" appear everywhere for you?

I'm on Firefox, for what it is worth.

Also, have you tried clearing the browser cache?

EDIT: I've just realised from the screenshots that the x is probably to remove a like response?

I does it in Chrome, Edge and Brave so far, and clearing the cache didn't help.

And yes, it's the "remove like" option that's broken.

Weird...  I went into the dev tools and grabbed the offending element, from your post in fact...

The "xtimes;"  is definitely at the end there... :/

Please go into Incognito mode and login to Neowin and see if you can reproduce it.

Extensions can also modify a page's HTML. Others are not seeing the same thing, so it makes me think it is an extension.

Also check if you have any programs running that plug into web pages such as an adblocker.

No luck. Tried it in all 3 browsers, disabled all extensions, shut off NordVPN, even reinstalled Chrome. Still does it. It does NOT doing from another machine though, just this one.

So, that's bloody weird!

Oh well, it has to be something local so I'll just have to live with it I guess. Appreciate you guys checking though. :)

I have! I've installed some pending updates, I've updated my GPU drivers, I've done all I can think of!

Any you know what? It's getting worse.....

Look at the yellow highlighted bits.. WTF?! It's all over the place now, and it's ONLY Neowin, on three browsers, so I can only conclude it's some kind of issue with the rendering engine as they're all Chromium based so they all use Blink...

I've tried searching for problems to do with Blink, but nada... :S

OK, after a LOT of digging around, involving wiping font caches, resetting browsers and all sorts of buggering about, I identified it as the Tracker Blocker in NordVPN getting confused with the & character in the page DOM, so I guess Nord changed something in their tracker lists or something.

92 trackers from the site, guys... Really? That's... kind of a lot...  I don't mind ads, but trackers are a no way in hell, sorry.  I'll put up with the annoyance.

    • One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.
    • I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
    • I really hope the author's health is ok. Squirreling away a official backup of this software. Looks like the internet archive already cached a copy as well - https://web.archive.org/web/20...ldbit-soft.fi/software.html
    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
    • Never had a problem with TPM and started using that many years ago in Win10. Through several motherboards and OS versions, it just does what it does without complaint. My games library doesn't even know it's there. Secure boot does a lot more than support anti-cheat, as it came along long before anti-cheat software. I've used it religiously since before I started using TPM, and I always liked it for being able to nullify virus contagions that try their best to come in underneath the firmware during boot, so that the OS doesn't see them, etc. That is its purpose, imo. I'll never understand why people who elect to use another OS feel compelled to run down Windows... I guess they need to do that to feel secure about their choices? I run Windows because it supports all the software (including games) natively that I want to buy, and I've never had to run down another OS to make me feel better about it. (Although it's certainly possible to do that, of course...) Win10 is on a ventilator atm, and Win11 is very close to being free, and I finally got to stop running StartAllBack as I moved to the Experimental/Dev channel and my 26300.8553 build supports the moveable taskbar and it's running fine at the top of the screen! Finally, my last major dislike of Win11 is being rectified! So, I'm not at all surprised to see Win11's share of the Steam survey hitting 70%.
