A Pickup, Coco and Me

While this is not a joke, I thought it was pretty funny when it happened so please bare with me

I was going grocery shopping the other day.   I took my usual route to my grocer which inolves crossing a lot of four stop intersections.  Anyway, the other night as I was headed to my grocers I came to one of the many four stop intersections and stopped to check for traffic.   A pickup truck headed across my path stopped at the intersection waiting for me to proceed.   Now here comes the funny part, or at least I thought it was funny and still think it is funny.   I had the right away but decided to be Mr. nice guy so I waved the truck on to cross in front of me, left to right.   The pickup truck driver notices my go ahead wave and proceeds to enter the intersection.  So far so good.   However,  A Coco had been waiting on the curb to also cross the intersection in the direction just opposite of how I was going.   I was going West to East and the Coco was going East to West.   Well, the Coco proceeds to go even though I had waved the pickup truck on.   The Coco must have figured since It was my turn to go he could safely traverse the intersection and so at first didn't notice the pickup truck entering the intersection in the direction of Coco..

 

Alas, it was not to be.  The pickup truck which had now entered the intersection was headed straight for the Coco which was now almost half way across the intersection.   Something was going to happen.   They both stopped and the Coco proceeded backwards tothe  curb from which it had come.   The truck then proceeded acrosss the intersection and on its way.  My kindness almost ceated an vehicular accident between a pickup truck and a Coco.   What makes it funny is rememebering watching the Coco trying to figure out what to do in order to avoid being in a vehicular accident.   I could tell it was very confused when it first saw the truck approaching because the Coco stopped, the truck slowed, the Coco proceeded the truck continued.  The Coco once again stopped for a couple of seconds than scurried backwards to where it disembarked into the intersection. 

The moral of the story.  When you stop at a four stop intersection, check for pedestrians, vehicles and Cocos.

Is that the legal right of way is what people should follow.  Whether you signalled to the truck driver to go should have no bearing upon his actions.  Had he crashed, for example, you would not be at fault here - he owns his actions as the driver in control of his vehicle.

Also, what the hell is a Coco?

I think a coco is a form of car?

So the story is that a person tried to be kind, and by being kind nearly caused an accident. It's not happened to me in a vehicle - I don't drive - but I've had similar experiences with people. There's a saying, "no good deed goes unpunished." Which is a shame, since it cultivates cynicism in the future. It might be the reason I'm such a cynic these days. That, or just getting older and tired.
