Laptop Processor Question

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

Here is the background. A home user who has nothing to do overtly with AI in any way and pretty much is the non gamer, stereotypical FB and cats user.

If I was looking at a new laptop would this be succifient in your expert opinions?

Ryzen 7-7730U/16GB/256GB SSD

The thing you look at when buying a computer or laptop is not the CPU/RAM/SSD. You are looking at what features are on the system. USB 2/3/4/c, GPU, (not for the gaming aspect, but if you want nice movies, this helps) and other helpful add-ons. Keyboard media keys, for example. Also long battery life is a plus, too.

Might want to also mention what brands you are looking at. Dell, Lenovo, Frameworks, etc.

Edit: Unless you are looking for a laptop for portability, get a desktop.

With Ryzen CPU's they sometimes steal ram as video memory so back in the day if you had 8GB of ram you were only left with 5.9 usable. It was ridiculous.

So it's possible it might take 1 or 2 gigs away from the 16GB.

I would think the integrated Radeon GPU should be fine for movies.

Also I really like 16 inches over 15.6, but it's more square than it is wide. So it's better for web pages and document work, where 15.6 might be better for movies.

Yeah, it's judgemental. You can always hook your HDMI port to your TV..

Hello,

I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about.

Compared to the 7735HS it is around 25-30% slower in multi-threaded tasks (according to Google search)

I did a review of the 7735HS Beelink SER6 Max in 2023, but thinking about it, it's not comparable to the 7730U.

For the example you gave about how it will be used, the 7730U is actually an excellent choice for its power and battery efficiency.

    • Ridiculous claim that the labor cost difference of $6000 annually would increase cost per phone by $200. The employees produce 3 phones per month or what?

    • Never used the G7 Pro, but I've never had a good experience with that style of d-pad and fighting games.
    • And I just bought a seat cushion for my mesh chair. The chair feels nice but the first time I sat in it with boxers, I realized I don't like the feel of mesh on my legs. 😂
