MG-Cloud
Hey, For english class, I need to read a relatively modern Canadian book. I've read a lot of Canadian literature in the past, but a lot of it is either too old (<1960), or would be extremely difficult to analyze. I'm wondering if anyone here has read a great book by a Canadian author recently, that is both an easy read and has literary merit. Any help would be appreciated :D
ChrisArr
Ondaatje's Coming Through Slaughter (1976) is an excellent piece of CanLit. A is In the Skin of a Lion (1987). If you don't mind going out of your timeframe a little, Ernest Buckler's The Mountain and the Valley (1952) is also an excellent novel. Canadian Literature is so often underrated, particular that of the 20th century.
ChrisArr
I should append that the Butler is modern in the philosophical sense and the Ondaatje is postmodern. Neither of which are dirty words.
