The systray is an upside version of the gradient on the taskbar (in the same way that the buttons dent in when pressed).

You think it looks out of place? Maybe it should just be the same as the taskbar.

Wow, release this please! I love the clean, fresh feeling I get from this. Perhaps a peach/apricot color variation? Or even a minty/pastel green?

Can't get hold of Loki, so I knocked up a quick shellstyle. It's my first ever one, so I've left it really standard. It uses Rokey's Smooth Metal Icons (with permission from Rokey :)).
