cal2002
You can do (S)VCD's on CD's. An SVCD would look ok, VCD is like VHS quality. You would know if your DVD supported playing DivX content Out-of-box. So you need to convert it to a format your DVD player can read. Almost all will read VCD's, some will do SVCD's. icecaveman
If you are going to do much of this it would be more expensive in the long run than buying for example an XBox and mod it or Kiss DVD player, also if you convert lossy videos to other lossy format the resaults are horrible. CrimsonBlur
Go to Target and spend $60-$70 on a new DVD player. They carry a number of models that can play DivX right out of the box. There were a couple for like $60 that were pretty nice, really thin. What is this Kiss player? Never heard of that company. Sony, Panasonic, Philips, JVC, Apex... all of the major DVD manufacturers have models that play DivX now. aldo
Since you are in the UK: http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/Ha..._Section__.html It's about half the way down. ?80 for a DiVX one. BTW I have never seen a 'big brand' DVD player play DiVX... It was really thin and sleek, but I don't remember the model number or anything. Maybe it's on their site, I'll check and see if it is. I also saw at least 3 other players that played DivX as well, from other companies. If it is not, that does not mean I'm lying, for God's sake. Why the hell would I make this up? It's silly to assume that. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/162939-watch-divx-on-a-dvd-player/#findComment-2046750 Share on other sites

rezza Veteran Posted May 2, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 2, 2004 This is the one I have, and I couldn't be happier with it. Not only can it play anything I throw at it (Divx4/5, Xvid2/3/4, 3ivx, ffmpeg, etc. etc.) but the build quality is top-notch as well. The tray slides smoothly and quietly, and it feels rock solid. Also the sound quality on CDs is pretty impressive, it outperforms my ?150 Kenwood Cd player easily, and delivers really crisp sound to my AV amp. Oh, and it has all the audio outputs you'll ever need - digital optical out, digital coax out, standard phono out, and Dolby 5.1 surround direct analogue out. The best piece of electronic equipment I have ever bought(Y)) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/162939-watch-divx-on-a-dvd-player/#findComment-2047325 Share on other sites
