JadeWolf324
i am setting up my friends box as a Windows/Gentoo box. but he has 2 hard drives. the plan is to have drive one store windows and linux. and then the second be a store for mutual transfer and use of files (eg: mp3s) can gentoo mount and succsessfully transfer files to and from linux? i want to make sure that you can do that in FAT32 because i know linux isnt quite there yet with NTFS. or are there any other mutual file systems that could be used on XP/Gentoo? or is FAT32 the best bet for this situation. markwolfe Veteran Posted May 8, 2004 Veteran Share Posted May 8, 2004 Yes. FAT is as much a part of the kernel as ext filesystem, I think...
MR_Candyman
yes...it can read and write fat32 no problem...and it can read ntfs very well aswell(IMHO better than windows can)...just not write
MG-Cloud
Yeah - just enable FAT32 filesystem support in your kernel and then you can mount any fat32 partitions just like you would a linux partition :) Also, read/writes to ntfs are supported as well (reading is fast, writing uses wine and the ntfs driver and is apparently very slow). Check out more information about writes here: http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/ Also, there are ext2/3 drivers available for windows, as well as reiserfs.
