Running Mac OS X on x86 PC!

VPC already is caqpable of running LH(windows version anyway) but if it can run xp, it can run lh.

The windows edition isn't emulation though: it's virtualization which isn't the same sort of thing it's more like MoL on PPC linux systems.

VirtualPC on OS X ~= PearPC on x86 because both are atleast emulation.

There is an updated version of virtualpc with office 2006 though I'm not aware of what the changes are aside from working around the lack of pseudo-little-endian-mode on G5s. VPC included with office 2007 will be the one that tells us a thing or two about the MBU at microsoft.

I totally disagree with your reasons to buy a macintosh (as I do in pretty much every thread you post in) but I'm not going to drag this too far off topic, there are enough goons doing that already. There's the soap box or PM if you really want to follow that topic.

Good morning everybody...

I'm trying the installation too (another anormal user ;) ) and I read this thing with the memory...

this hex number 0x24000000 does not work: crashes too on my pc.

Can you give me a little help?

Then, wath's this with this cvs file... where can I download it?

Greetings from Switzerland

CVS is a mechanism for holding the source code to the program so many developers can access it with ease. Unless you have a Linux box lying around, CVS will be useless for you unless you want to look at the code without compiling it.

As for the memory... I was able to successfully boot OS 10.2 with the memory set to 0x24000000. I didn't even get a Kernel Panic in anything I did inside of the OS. It was just dirt slow.

I have a Linux Box (SuSE 9.0) but... I think I'd like to install mol under linux... but I can't get it. The rpm wants the kmods and there aren't downloadable any more on the site... do you know someone who has this file? (mol-kmods-0.9.70....ppc.rpm) ?

What I want to do is to run a Program named REALBasic with a Mac Emulator... but as long I cannot tune up the memory, this would not work I think. Can you post the relevant part of your config file?

Ok i've installed the Mac OS X, my PPC restarts and then i got the error. When i tried to force my img I have an error "Permission Denied" I have 5 partitions but there is no bootable partition so it cannot start. Anyone knows where is the problem?

Did you get the error message:

IRQL_OS_NOT_BOUGHT_OR_STOLEN?

Have you travelled back in time to tell us about future Microsoft products?

or do you mean Office X / Office X 2004?

Have you travelled back in time to tell us about future Microsoft products?

or do you mean Office X / Office X 2004?

It's listed as Microsoft Office 2004 on the microsoft 'mactopia' site, you can call it whatever you want. There was a link to details about virtualpc 7 on neowin a while ago, but a quick search on google turns up this macworld article.

There was an explanation from microsoft for why VirtualPC didn't work on G5 systems - in short a funciton available on previous powerpc processors that allowed the processor to 'seamlessly' work in both big-endian and little-endian mode is not in the power970, searching IBMs or Motorolas website will no doubt provide details about how that works.

So no time travel, just a little reading.

You mentioned Office 2006 and 2007.

Which is where my confusion started

Virtual PC is a bundled part of Office X now. It's currently available with professional version of Office X, and is listed as a bundled part of the pro version of Office 2004.

If Microsoft continues to develop Virtual-PC we will see the next major version in 2006/7 (they've released a new version about every 2 years for nearly a decade now) - which is not too far off the estimated ship time for the next version of Windows. Macintosh versions tend to ship years that Windows versions do not ship:

Windows saw office versions in:

95, 97, 99 (office 2000 shipped at the end of 99), 2003 - I can't remember when XP shipped, I'd guesstimate 2001 to coincide with the windows xp release.

Mac OS had office versions in:

98, 2000 (called 2001), 2002 (x), and now 2004.

Makes sense that we won't know how well (or if) Longhorn is supported until Microsoft ships Office 2006.

They alternate pretty nicely, and Microsoft has started beta nominations for the next version of office which should ship in 2005 if the name is any indication of the ship date.

Is it really that unreasonable to expect Office 2006 to be the time we find out the fate of VirtualPC on Mac OS?

Seeing as we know for certain that VPC isn't going to be shelved and that the Mac version has been updated, it's hardly hanging in the balance...

Pilsbury: I love your sense of humor, but u're off topic.

2. No Warez (links) & Cracks: help, requests or posts that discuss circumvention. This includes linking to software, posting about it, and suggesting to get it.

I'll stay on topic and abide by the rules if you do the same.

I'm installing at the moment... I hope, everything works.

A tip for the Installation process.

Deactivate Programs which you don't need (all lanugage packets, except your language), the BSD-Package, the additional Voices and the software you won't need (i.e iTunes).

Sound doesn't work, so, as you say, not installing iTunes, etc is a good idea to save time, and hard disc space.

Things like iMovie, etc, are going to be pretty useless too with the speed (or lack of it!)

    • Thanks Microsoft but no, I find both iterations of Outlook terrible nowadays and switched back to Thunderbird at home.
    • Happens to the best of us, bro. 😛
    • Thanks to some of the other recent Windows improvements, I'm optimistic about this one. My quick wishlist would be: perf like the older menu, merge both menus or at the very least, the older menu should be a flyout, not a simulated click to the old menu, and lastly, a customization window to let users move items from one menu to another, so I could bring Send To back to the main menu, and the OneDrive settings to the older.
