BobMatthijs
Bought a radeon 9600 as an upgrade from a geforce2 and i am getting much worse performance in counter-strike that i did before  The card seems to work fine on all my other games i have updated drivers and removed my old nvidia ones properly. I have tried reinstalling as well, to no avail. any idea how i can boost my radeon 9600 performance? currently the fps rages volatilely between 5-97 fps, usually staying around 30, whereas my gf2 gave me 59-60fps any help appreciated :)
nuka_t
thats might be because you are now playing at a much higher resolution and quality than before. what are your specs?

Take it as a sign... find a better game. I've noticed ATI doesnt handle most of the old games so well.
BobMatthijs
wow that was constructive, thx a lot soviet :/ i cant afford a top of the range card cause i actually am going to Russia instead over the summer and need to pay for a masters degree next year: a bit more than a top of the range card. The only reason i play cs is cause i have made a lot of mates over the past few years and dont raelly wanna give it up cause its too much fun :) and honestly, it should definitely have a boost over the geforce2 --> instead of a steady 40-60fps with that, i get 5-97 unstable fps with a radeon 9600 it seems to be working fine in all games bar CS, i read the steam forum help thing, thx anova. it did not help though ati have righteously screwed over cs players :/ and yep, its a not an SE version my system summary from sandra is as follows: SiSoftware Sandra Processor Model : Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 1700MHz Speed : 1.70GHz Performance Rating : PR1870 (estimated) Type : Standard L2 On-board Cache : 256kB ECC Synchronous ATC Mainboard Bus(es) : ISA AGP PCI IMB USB i2c/SMBus MP Support : 1 CPU(s) MP APIC : Yes System BIOS : Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG Mainboard : MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-6534 Total Memory : 767MB SDRAM Chipset 1 Model : Intel Corporation 82845 Brookdale Host-Hub Interface Bridge (A3-step) Front Side Bus Speed : 4x 100MHz (400MHz data rate) Total Memory : 768MB SDRAM Memory Bus Speed : 1x 133MHz (133MHz data rate) Video System Monitor/Panel : Plug and Play Monitor Adapter : SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600 ATLANTIS Adapter : SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600 ATLANTIS - Secondary Physical Storage Devices Removable Drive : Floppy disk drive Hard Disk : ST340810A CD-ROM/DVD : IDE DVD-ROM 16X CD-ROM/DVD : LITE-ON LTR-52327S CD-ROM/DVD : AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device Logical Storage Devices 1.44MB 3.5" (A:) : N/A Boot (C:) : 18.6GB (706MB, 4% Free) (NTFS) Backup (D:) : 15.6GB (1.7GB, 11% Free) (NTFS) Recover (E:) : 3.0GB (1.7GB, 57% Free) (FAT32) Vice_city_play (F:) : 660MB (0MB, 0% Free) (CDFS) Gta_vice_city (G:) : 670MB (0MB, 0% Free) (CDFS) CD-ROM/DVD (H:) : N/A Peripherals Serial/Parallel Port(s) : 3 COM / 1 LPT USB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442 USB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2444 USB Controller/Hub : USB Root Hub USB Controller/Hub : USB Root Hub Keyboard : Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard Mouse : HID-compliant MX510 Optical Mouse Human Interface : Logitech USB MX510 Optical Mouse MultiMedia Device(s) Device : MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device Device : Standard Game Port Device : Intel® 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller Communication Device(s) Device : Creatix V.90 HAM Data Fax Modem Printers and Faxes Model : HP DeskJet 930C/932C/935C Operating System(s) Windows System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Version 5.01.2600 Service Pack 1 Network Adapter(s) Network Drivers Enabled : Yes Adapter : Linksys LNE100TX(v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter
