I never really liked them until I met my girlfriend. She wears them everywhere we go and so I figured I try them out just to see if they are really that comfortable or not...and they were. What's crazy is I bought some from GAP for like $17 and they hurt like hell if I walk long distances. I bought some from Old Navy for $3.50 and they are extremely comfortable and I can wear them for extended periods of time.

over here in Hawaii, it's funny (and we make fun of people in a joking way sometimes) when people call them anything other than slippers (or "slippahs" with the pigeon accent :D). Flip flops or, especially thong sandals, will just not do it here. Slippers are everywhere here! EVERYONE wears slippers, and it's a big part of tradition here. There no getting around NOT getting a pair of slippers here :D So, I'm a little bias when I say that slippers are comfortable. They're the way to go! I mean they're open and keep your feet cool, your feet don't sweat, it keeps more socks from getting into the laundary, and you can just slip them on right away.

Sandals rule. I wear them year round. I agree with those here who find the hard plastic toe piece annoying - those suck, but almost anything from Walmart I can make last 8-10 months of continuous wearing.

For anyone who enjoys sandals but needs somthing more utilitarian, like with a real sole, get yourself a pair of Chacos. It's the last pair you'll ever buy.

i go to uc san diego in la jolla. almost everyone wears flip flops year round. its all about the reefs and the rainbows.
