I need to download the XP SP2 to get the firewall or there is a option to

download only the firewall??

Yes, you need SP2 for the firewall.

Another thing... why hasn't Sygate Personal Firewall been updated since October 27, 2003? Is it just that secure that it doesn't need updates, or has it been discontinued?

Can't fix what isn't broken.

And, since it isn't garbage to begin with, and isn't filled with flashy bells, whistles and bugs, there isn't really any reason to update it (I would imagine). ZoneAlarm gave me a chip which isn't soon to fall off my shoulder...and that was years ago. Doesn't sound like its any better today.

I wouldn't consider using any other firewall, until something else is proven as secure and stable. Which is going to take some time...maybe XP SP2 firewall, maybe...

Look N Stop... fastest, arguably most secure software firewall available on the internet. With all the advanced settings enabled, it will block every single comprehensive test located here..

except copycat, which no software firewall can block anyways. Uses barely 2 MB of memory while running. Site and forums located below..

You know.. if you don't trust Microsoft at all, don't even argue. We know what we are takling about. ICF is secure for blocking unwanted incoming packets, but if that's not good enough, you can stick with ZA.

It should be your turn to talk, not his. So far, you don't have any evidences against ICF except it is made by MS.

I have to agree with OPaul on this one.

Well this is funny....you see I have gone a long time (probably 2-3 years) with the name XP GOD...and the funny thing is this.

XP's built in firewall IS NOT "made" by Microsoft?, but made by BlackIce Defender and tweaked by MS.

I used to know, although it is early for me....how exactly you can see that information.

Interesting....First time I've heard that it?s made by Blackice Defender. Do you have any source confirming th:ninja:ja: ?

In my opinion Outpost Firewall is one of the best out there .

It's easy to configure, non system intrusive and it takes less ressources than Kerio and ZA on my system ( P3 :( ).

It's really a very good software. You should give it a try . ;)

I am still trying to find this info, but if I remember from the "Whistler" days, Stephen Bink had info on this or it may have been Tom's Hardware guide or that one cat....Paul Thurrot (spelling?)

Once the SP2 RTM comes out and I can get it slipstreamed it's going to be either Outpost or Look N Stop for me. Never tried outpost yet, but heard it's good and has ad blocking.

They test 24 firewalls using their default settings on this site here..

I can personally attest to Look N Stop passing every test except the copy cat test when turning the settings up.. haven't tried outpost like I said, but it did pretty well on the default settings anyway. Right now the program is only using about 1924K with the log cleared.. I've seen it use as much as 7500K which is still not bad... still can't get over it's speed and how unknown it is considering how good it is.
