Firefox 0.9 Expected Release Date Announced

Recommended Posts

Firefox has been through numerous tests of the 0.9 branch in the last month and its finally coming close to squashing the last of the bugs, which is very exciting. I have been following the branch builds for a long time and Ben Goodger, the firefox developer who was interviewed by you guys(neowin) last month, has announced that the stable 0.9 release will be widely avalible by branch build dates 20040612 or 20040614

Here is a link to the topic

clickidy click.

We're targeting a 6/12 or 6/14 (earlier better) release date for 0.9. I don't see much point in holding onto this one for too long since it'll only eat into 1.0b development cycle time. It looks like EM etc mostly works.

Please grab all the recent branch builds you can and find any grandma killing bugs!

Good news isn't it??

maybe its time that i start getting on the nightly builds again...

thx for the update.

no problem

is this the release the enables you to exit firefox and still resume downloads at a later date?

No this one includes a new theme and extension manager.. both beautiful pieces of work!!

I don't use the nightlies anymore. It is much more fun when they release 0.9 and you don't know anything about it. I love the element of surprise :)

When using nightlies a milestone build would be nothing special anymore.

One thing to note.. before you install the latest ones please read this topic

There will be one last profile directory change where all the user data is stored.. its going to go under the MOZILLA folder. Make sure you back up your bookmarks before installing :D

very nice.

now i can save that folder instead of my firefox, and thunderbird folders seperately.

lol well the only thing that doesn't work is most extensions. Developers have to repackage the extensions according to the new 0.9 standards.. take a look at the new standards here:

They have been very busy with 0.9 with the theme manager and all. Hope it does get released on the said date.

Rock on Firefox.

Yeah i remember the very first theme manager.. deleted the default theme. LMAO.. haha but now you can drag and drop new themes and they can switch automatically.. its great!

The best feature by far in this release is the notification if you close the browser window with multiple tabs. Beffore, if you accidently double clicked on the 'X' on a window above and FF 'X' was right below it, then you were screwed and you had no tabs, which if like me you have tens of at a time.

Now, however, it prompts me to close with a message saying 'This browser has x number of tabs open, are you sure you want to close?'. It's a life saved.

What is even worse of course is Safari, at night on my iBook and I accidently press Command + Q instead of Command + W. Now I always use the file menu :).

The list was twice that last week.. id say they will make it.. they have a long time until the predicted release date....
