Firefox 0.9 Expected Release Date Announced

Recommended Posts

i think it used to, and its also ugly.

I think it rocks. It is so small I don't see why they can't include it at least. I don't really like the direction Firefox is going. I think I'll stick with Mozilla. But I hope people who do like Firefox are happy with it.

why do you care? you can alwas download any theme you want? mozilla is just a "bloated" version of firefox. firefox and thunderbird are the perfect combo IMO,

Don't wanna fight dude. I'm just saying I like Mozilla better, that's all. If you like FireFox that is cool too. :)

Alright everybody good news. Release Dates are getting a little bit clearer now.. Ben has posted exact dates for rc1 and the final.. A little bit more certain this time.

Firefox 0.9 RC1 is expected on 2004-06-08

Firefox 0.9 Milestone is expected on 2004-06-14

Yes, the themes (Win/Linux) are changing again (for legal reasons).

Windows has a new theme as of today.

I would appreciate if you would NOT discuss what you hate/like about them in this thread.

If you don't like the new ones, replace it with another theme (as soon as that option properly works).

Firefox 0.9 Shaping Up

I haven't posted for a while because I've been very busy with the 1.0 Branch, the 0.9 bug list, and other things. Here are some updates:

* The new Extension Manager is working quite well. I've fixed a few bugs but it seems there's nothing showstopping so far. Please continue to test this feature on the branch, and file bugs and nominate for .9 if you run into any problems.

* I've been charging through the 0.9 bug list and now it's down to 8 blocking0.9+ bugs. If you know of any serious bugs that you think should block this release, please nominate them!

* The updated products site and release notes are pretty much ready.

A request - please focus extension testing efforts on the branch builds, none of this is enabled on the trunk yet due to code review delays so by using the trunk you're wasting your time since that's not the code we're going to be shipping with 0.9 or 1.0

Looking at the list.. the last of the branch bugs are beginning to be squashed! Hooray! :D

Anyways go to that thread for more info.. the 6-7-04 builds will be out in a few hours.. Im excited about today's build.. it looks like a good build..

    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
