I really don't know, but maybe he's upset because TGTSoft forces people to buy StyleXP in order to use StyleBuilder?

I know he remarked to me once about not wanting to make or allow a WB port of Reluna either since he didn't want to be making Stardock money when he sees no kickback and the fact that he would be basically selling their products with his work (which is true to an extent). I can see why he said those things but still, that's life--it shouldn't make you want to quit what you love doing.

Goodbye Bant, your themes were awesome. When I first came into the design community you outline theme was the second one i used (first one being velvet waves because someone gave that) and i loved it. it featured my desktop for ages. :)

i then look around of your name and saw much more of it, i just had to get all your themes and did so. they are awesome. you're a legend and it's a pity to see you go. i wish you the best of luck, and you'll always be in my designers heart as a great legend designer. :)

lol I love how it's tgtsoft's and stardocks fault. I'v ebeen in contact with Ban ta few times and he seemed cool, but this is just retarded placing the blame on the two companies. Maybe TGTSoft isn't the greatest, but Stardock has done nothing to him at all. Just sounds pretty lame to me. If he didn't want to skin for paying products, he could have skinned for tons of other apps out there.

Far as I can remember we can thank Bant for . . .

Ashen

Reluna

Recurve

Cursive

Classix 2.0 (mods)

there was a few more, can't remember them

As well as some great walls like Oceans Apart (still my personal fave)

Either way it's a sin to see him go, his work was second to none in the originals department, he always knew how to handle the jerks who posted stupid or useless comments, he was the man, this is a craptastically sad day for deskmodders

0utline, dear man, 0utline!!

like i said on his userpage, he's a legend and will forever be remembered..

Reluna is probably one of the best designed themes in history of XP themeing.. if nothing, it's inspired an overwhelming amount of good and bad themes on it's own.. just like Bant inspired many, many themers as well..

stay strong Bant.. *switches to 0utline* ahhhhhhh.. :D

Yeah, stupid me, how could I forget Outline, and especially Azure since I come back to it like every second week, luckily I think I still have Reluna and Azure backed up somewhere . . . I wonder if we asked really really nice, if Bant would allow someone to package all his themes together one last time, and give us like a 48hr window to download, I mean, we could even start a petition?? Actually, I'm gonna start a thread now, everyone go sign up, someone has to be able to get in touch with him, and we'll see if we can get them one last time before he goes maybe??

there will most likely be no permission for release of bant's themes anymore, like his DA page said, he's done, he removed his themes for a reason.

has he stated he doesn't want people distributing his themes?

no.

so what's the problem? we're supposed to just delete all his themes just because he retired? that's morronic. in fact, sharing of his themes should be incouraged now more than ever, so more people can see the genius of his work and what we'll miss in the future..

so until Bant publicly requests people to stop sharing his themes, i will keep giving them to my friends.. and even if he does ask people to stop, it still wouldn't be illegal, it would just make it a moral clash..

Bant, we love ya and all, but i won't stop using your themes cuz you say so..

yes it would be illegal. He owns the works and has full ownership over the distribution of them.

i don't agree on the distribution bit.. once a piece of work goes public, whether that be on the internet or in real life, the artist loses any distribution control of it.. he might be in control of what he has with him (in this case, all the accounts he runs on different art-sites.. so he can just delete his work from there, and kindly ask people to stop distributing the themes)..

but as far as any legal issues go, i doubt there is any concerning distribution.. sure, he can dictate how he wants his work distributed, but not much can be done to try and actually stop the distribution..

also, this might be different from site to site.. dART, for instance, has an extensive policy which might include the points you refer to, but what if i downloaded the theme from another site or a friend of mine sent it to me? does it still hold ground?

it's a moot point, to an extent.. but if Bant asked people to stop distributing themes, i would obey his wishes from the respect i have towards him..
