Got gmail? Comments? Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I now have one issue with this. After deciding to switch to gmail as my main email addy.....I went in to add some contacts. However, I found that it adds addresses automatically. I dont want that. I want to be able to add contacts, and those contacts be the only ones in there. Is there a way to set something so only contacts I add, go to the contact list?

I agree, I do not like the automatic contacts list. I do not think there is a way to turn that off.

sadatkarim (at) gmail (dot) com (you can never be too sure ;) :D )

I like just about everything on it.

1. The clean interface.

2. Barely any ads..and if there are any..its onl text.

3. Real fast!

4. Short domain

5. No spam so far

6. The starred thing is real cool...once I get my inbox a bit larger..that will come in handy

7. 1 gig of space!

8. The search will come in handy soon also.

9. Google reliability!

10. the conversation style messages

And since its only beta, im sure new things are to come out!

I could not find the answer for this on the Gmail help pages, but does anyone know what will happen to our Gmail accounts after this goes out of beta and made available to the public? For example, will we lose our accounts or have to pay for them?

taken from the invite email:

John Smith has invited you to open a free Google Gmail account. The

invitation will expire in three weeks and can only be used to set up one

account.

To accept this invitation and register for your account, visit

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Once you create your account, John Smith will be notified with

your new @gmail.com address so you can stay in touch with Gmail!

If you haven't already heard about Gmail, it's a new search-based webmail

service that offers:

- 1,000 megabytes (one gigabyte) of free storage

- Built-in Google search that instantly finds any message you want

- Automatic arrangement of messages and related replies into

  "conversations"

- Text ads and related pages that are relevant to the content of your

  messages

Gmail is still in an early stage of development. If you set up an

account, you'll be able to keep it even after we make Gmail more

widely available and as one of the system's early testers, you will

be helping us improve the service through your feedback. We might ask

for your comments and suggestions periodically and we appreciate your

help in making Gmail even better.

Thanks,

The Gmail Team

Hope that answers this question raised many times now. :)

Yea I saw that before Jerry when I recieved it, but all of this time I have been thinking it is sort of too good to be true. In the back of my head, I keep thinking they will let you keep your account, but you will have to pay a small fee or something to keep it because giving people a gig of email storage for free just seems unfeasible. Then again, Google is probably running the biggest array of computers known to man so they probably have the space to spare and not everyone will even come close to using a gig.

Gmail has been nothing but great to me. Extremely nice looking and it loads instantly.

Pop3 will be nice when it goes public (it would be dumb of them not to have it). Also, I would like the ability to

create folders and organize things more to my liking. I think the contacts list is fine, yet I dont like how it adds them automatically. As for the spam filiter, I have gotten only one email that was spam, and it was in Turkish, so I'll give it a break on that one. Check out this site for more info on how accurate the spam filter is Voidunknown. It also tells its vunerabilites against malicous attacks. Very interesting. :)
