Point of correction, the initial intent of said users was _Never_ to harm the server. I have read through the complete forum at which this whole mess started, and there was never anything saying that they wanted to hurt the system. Also, about an hour ago, I tried to sign up for the service at YGP, and ALL matter of random strings of letters and numbers, and they were _all_ suspiciously "Reserved"... AND I was made fun of by, what seems to be, the _only_ tech support/webmaster/IT the site has. I was very disappointed. Kind of like I am very disappointed at the way that the information here somehow got skewed in transfer... I am currently awaiting a reply on why I can't sign up for this email service, but after this support person made fun of my name "Lunis Neko", they disappeared and have made no reply, despite their prompt previous replies. I will post a copy of all emails sent back and forth on request. Also, apparently YPG's mother company is MPC, whose main site happens to be officialspin.com. And, on this officialspin.com, they have all of 5 "press releases" on thier site (that I can find), 3 of which are related to YPC. And, the "rating" on each of these "press releases" is a clean 5.00, despite the fact that I gave it a 1, after which it showed 3.00, then reset itself back to 5.00 after about an hour, roughly. Also, YPG has had a history of making a mountain out of an anthill... Threatening to sue a certain webmaster for using "You've Got Post" on his personal web site as the heading for one of his pages, despite the fact that "You've Got Post" is actually famous because of AOL UK, who says "you've got post" instead of "you've got mail"... Just trying to spread another side. Listen if you will, ignore me otherwise, I don't really care.

hey thumbs up for actually doing your homework

either they are really stupid and didn't understand the server load they this would give them, or it was a scam

so they are either A. Evil or B. Stupid , call them either i don't really care

People are sometimes so thick.

If you read different forum posts AND the official News posts you'll

see that they originally gave 1 tb or space in the beginning and that INCREASED

IF you needed more.

Because of some stupid idiots that support G-Mail (probaby google itself), an email provider

that scans your emails and inputs adverts into them, they raided YGP (you've got post.com) and

registered ALOT of commonly used email addresses, thus stoping people from registering, AND sent

large files.

They SAY incremental. Dont say it's a scam until you've tried it out.(This was the point ^_^) Sitting on the throne saying what you

'think' is right and wrong is not alright until you've tried something out and obtained proof.

ALL MODS TELL YOU THIS.

There are ALOT of unlimited space email providers out there, just using 2 GB sounds cool.

The people who did this to ruin someone's service should be banned from their forums AND from Gmail.

GOogle are probably feeling the glory that they have some idiots supporting them.

Once again let me say that the intent was never to harm the servers. The whole point was that they wanted to see if the system really would allow such a claim as 1 Terabyte of storage. By the way, one of the users did get up to 1Gig of files, despite the fact that the only tech support this email company has was reading and deleting various emails. And, before anyone trys to say it, 90% of the emails sent back and forth were fully legal to be sent and recieved, the other 10% was legal but some people may question that, so I give them the benefit of the doubt. Oh, and only a couple (1-3?) of the users even HAS GMail... (Note: I would kill for a gmail account, just so I can register [email protected] before it's taken, so someone refer me! :p) Another couple points to add, 1) Google itself had nothing to do with this, and 2) the usernames registered were NOT common... (Examples:: theft, youvegotpot, ethereal, johnmurry, Juggatard, PCW, gregmail, GeneralSpecific, Apex, litho, getalot681, bobthom, llamaguy, Danjamin, jefferson, monkeymofo, mob2002, userfriendly, mbushell, particleman, sprouts42, Dache, jkurland, d, heath, floor, shii, yarr, mixmaster, vrunt, ruddigger, jeremyk, sonicice, twiztidlojik, darkwind, nzbl, trechnu, chrisd, smellymonkey, heywoodjablome, ilikebigfiles, bongle, sludge, Baloosh, stanleypain, admin5, coxor, ilovegayblackcocks, Swilo, hortongeo, billo, Chipmunk, redfred, robberbaron, derringdo, kremit, IamCommunist, dmac, jadaris, vince, alshain, zeromusmog, dankity, fractionman, supergoon, cpuman2001, lefty, deaths_head, fiend, c, happy_noodle_boy, Hammer, Alteax, jberthelot1, tanisen, civx, alexhays, ddrllama, imjasonh, itsmekirby, spamalot, ccb, baalzamonbarnes, ohh, thepresident, ilsaraf, recluse, js, Nephtis, imchikun, a63548, p0isonxfree, nevett, velox, kenneth, katton, fubarbundy, alyandon, da.big.ruski, xenomorph, crazakp, bobmek, Frabce, caseyamspacher, oh****, smithern, andyatuc, letsgoflyers81, ivegotpost, firstdayback, vegaji, dimeat, ojo, CharCoal, parlett316, Rukawa, dukeku, senns, Killmaster, wh, z, jolci, sli, keenmachine, Ancient-Sandstorm, zpeef, moflika, omgplz, enzo13, Juggatard, PCW, gregmail, vidsidasta.... Incredible. Im sure google would do that to some no name company just so you cant get your hefty 20MB of webmail space. Give me a break

And seriously why bitch about the damn ads. If you hate them so much, dont use google, because theyre on there too if you didnt notice.

BTW, once and a while you should listen to your own advice, and I quote "Sitting on the throne saying what you

'think' is right and wrong is not alright until you've tried something out and obtained proof."

Moron.

Guys,

The guy who runs the You've Got Post system is an absolute scumbag. He likes to use aliases - his current webmaster, Amy, is almost definitely a front. His name is Greg Lloyd Smith. Type his name into Google, see what pops up.

After unsuccessfully trying to take a company called Frugalescrow public (total loss) he went on to bigger things. MPC Trading, the company allegedly behind Youvegotpost, also dabbles in small time porn sites and whatever else he thinks can turn a quick buck. All this is fueled by officialspin.com, the 'press release' site he uses to try to promote the companies he backs, and to flame people who look at what he does with a careful eye.

GLS is the genius who originally conceived of registering www.amazon.com.gr in Greece, and then tried to sell it back to Amazon for millions. He was sued by Amazon using the RICO (Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organizations) stautes, and the URL now belongs to Amazon.

GLS also tried to sue Nike, but nothing came of that either.

This guy is a nasty piece of work. He is also a complete failure as a businessman.

Here is the latest press release from YGP, blaming his pathetic site's crash on Gmail users. Greg Lloyd Smith really needs a paying day job.

Google steps back from responsibility;

YGP learns the hard way not to trust GMail

by OfficialWire NewsDesk

NEW YORK, NY -- (OfficialWire) -- 06/19/04 -- According to 'The Google Team', Google, Inc., asserts no control over GMail users, who it is alleged have used GMail in an abusive and threatening way. Unlike most reputable Email providers, such as Hotmail or Yahoo!, Google does not enforce an acceptable use policy nor does the Californian-based company actively investigate complaints by any third party. "Google is a provider of information, not a mediator," the unnamed member of 'The Team' wrote, following a complaint.

As reported by OfficialWire on June 14, 2004, You've Got Post Limited owner/operator of the popular FreeMail, You've Got Post! contacted Google about numerous abuses by a number of Internet small band of GMail users. Participants included several GMail users, who registered and then posted their YGP Email addresses to an Internet forum along with messages that invited other forum visitors to send bulk Emails to these new Email accounts in hopes of damaging the YGP web site?according to the comments posted on the forum. Other forum users registered YGP Email accounts?in one example more than 100 addresses?by a single user who suggested others should use a Hotmail he had created to satisfy the requirements for registration. Hotmail immediately closed this account. While few would disagree with the notion that Google is the world's search engine leader, if they intend to compete with the world's Email leaders?Hotmail and Yahoo?they will need to recognize that reputable Email providers have a responsibility to ensure that their Email users are not abusers. They will need to act swiftly and responsibly to complaints of abuse. Otherwise, GMail will become a haven for Email hooligans and will quickly be recognized as a brand of abuse. As of this writing, You've Got Post! has banned future registrations from GMail account holders. Amy Jackson, a spokesperson for You've Got Post! said: "We realize that these offending users can simple register with their 'other' Email accounts, but we have confidence that other Email providers will act in a responsible manner...unlike Google."

The really annoying thing here is that Greg Lloyd Smith pretends that his site is an official PR and news site, and then pumps these 'news articles' about his sites into a large news network called emailwire.com.

So, GLS's strategy at the moment is to write on hot button topics, like Gmail, and then make sure to include his crappy websites as the victim. These articles, in turn, are pumped around the net, in the hope that his sites will get more YGP freemail subscribers/viewers.

We may want to drop a note to emailwire.com http://www.emailwire.com/cgi-bin/news/db.c...emplate=contact and tell them they may not want to take part in this kind of thing.

It all comes down to one principle: People today have NO MORALS, NO ETHICS, and Dont give a **** about what it will do to people. I mean, I use Gmail and I agree that Google is NOT Resposible for this AT ALL. They are not there to babysit (which is what should happen to some of those people). What hurts me the most is that people in our society have abused everything. If something is abused too much, then it will go away. If someone breaks the rules too many times, then the priviledge of doing something vanishes. People DO NOT understand this concept. I mean there are people 2x my age who are still 5 yrs old in their intellect. Come on poeple grow up. I love Gmail and Neowin, this is not a bash on either of them. It is more a bash on those who have done this. This is all I have to say on this.

    • Apple reluctantly forces strict new age checks on Texas users starting today by Paul Hill Apple will begin enforcing the Texas Age Assurance Law (SB 2420) following a recent court ruling that lifted an injunction on SB 2420. Starting June 4 (today), Apple will enforce strict age-verification and parental-consent rules for new Apple accounts created in Texas. This move will affect children under 18 who go to download apps or attempt to make in-app purchases. Apple previously expressed privacy concerns related to this law, but compliance is now mandatory for the company, nevertheless. Apple will use several APIs to follow the law. Principally, the Declared Age Range API will fetch the specific user age bracket (Under 13, 13-15, 16-17, or 18+) and a verification method. The Significant Change API (PermissionKit) will trigger a system dialog for parental consent if an app gets a major update or an age-rating shift. There is also a new property type in StoreKit that allows developers to automatically check when their app’s age rating has changed on a user’s device and then use the Significant Change API to request parental consent. Finally, App Store Server Notifications can be configured to tell developers when a parent revokes consent, blocking app launches. To ensure they are ready for these changes, developers must immediately use Apple’s sandbox testing environment to validate these APIs in their apps. For any developers out there finding this to be inconvenient, get used to it. Other regions, such as Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil, are looking at, or have implemented, similar rules.
