1. Use one of many programs to do this such as ProtoWall (recommended, especially for P2P users) or Norton Firewall

6. W3C standards do play an important role but nearly all websites are tuned to load IE without errors being that it's the most common browser by a longshot.

5) Did you research that, I'd doubt it. If so, more *useful* ones? No.

6) True, but these days web standards are becoming more and more popular and widely used.

Also, using IE opens you to the occasional security hole, such as the one we saw a while back that could change the URL bar to display any domain name.

Also, another minor quibble about Firefox (two actually) is its portrayal of buttons, and its inability to uninstall plugins. I like the way IE renders clickable buttons much more than Firefox's way. Why can't they emulate IE more closely and make a nicer-looking button? Also, why has the ability to automatically uninstall plugins that don't come with an uninstaller not already been integrated into Firefox? I realize it may be in nightly builds, but I want it in a landmark build (or whatever such builds are called). I've had to re-install Firefox one time too many because of plugins messing up my Firefox installation.

I don't use any plugins, and you can only blame yourself for installing too many, or useless ones really in the first place.

The font in the boxes on Firefox is much bigger and closer to the edges of the boxes, and there isn't a huge difference, but they just seem much uglier than those in Internet Explorer. Also, I've installed some plugins that I thought I might need, but then find out that either I don't, or the plugin doesn't work properly (and these are plugins that I get from the main plugin download page from Firefox). I suppose I should be more cautious when installing plugins (even though I don't use many), but I thought that Firefox was supposed to have "much better" plugin support than IE. One can easily remove plugins from IE (using other programs, true, but it is still possible), when one can't from Firefox.

I have used Firefox since the pheonix days and have never thought it was very tough to cope with. The transition was simple and Firefox for me is the best browser Ive used (And believe me I have used more than 20 browsers... frm the days of Mosiac).

After the switch to Firefox, using IE is a little boring and u have to wait a little longer. May be ppl use Mozilla, not Firefox and complain that it loads slow! Although compared to IE, Firefox takes 2 sec extra to load, but after that it approx 30-50% faster than IE. Includes, page loading, productivity due to tabbed browsing, and due to ad blocking it does not have to load scrap images!

i had also used a lot of browser and firefox is still the best

on the other hand,even my 11 year old sister uses firefox in her 500mhz and it launches automatically,so dont talk that firefox is difficult to use or slow:rolleyes:

So don't use it, simple as that. If you don't like it, why do you care what everyone else thinks about it?

Agreed! Until you dont believe in something dont do it! And the biggest mistake of all is loving something that you actually dont love by heart!

its better to knock something they don't like than to admit that its just as good if not better. Its just simple human reaction.

Like many have said in here, all this is relative. All browsers have their pros and cons, it depends on what you want and/or are used to. It is natural that when switching from something you have used all the time to something new, you will have many issues.

I have used Opera, Ie and Firefox/Mozilla. They all have their good things and personally I like them all. Currently I'm using Firefox because of all 3 major browsers, FF was the only one I hadnt tried ( and I like to try new things and compare). I once used Mozilla, but didnt like it much because I found it slow. Now that I use FF and have had time to test it throughtly I like it a lot. There are a lot of advantages in using this browser which I wont mention because they already have been mention. I like the way it render pages and it's extension capabilities.

My suggestion to all those people who haven't try this browser yet, but feel curious about it , is to try it and test it throughtly before jumping to any conclusions. Maybe you get to like it better than your previous browser.

uhhh i've been using Firefox since probably about .3 release and i've never gotten any of that...make sure your popup block is enabled!

That doesnt mean firefox has the spyware, its just the sites that you're going to that try to make you install it.

At the worst, Firefox cant block these requests as well as IE, but i dont think so.

I've used Firefox for over a year now and it loads instantly on my computers (1900+ and 2.0 Celeron Laptop). The pages render very quickly and it's great on my cable connection. Even when I visit my parents and use their 56k dialup , it's still faster than IE. I use it at school because it loads faster than IE and renders faster on the slower school machines I use. I got really annoyed with popups, and IE was just slow. Firebird(fox) was what I needed and I stuck with it. If you don't like it, don't use it. I tried using MyIE2, and Opera, but didn't like them at all.

There is a reason why FF doesn't load as fast as IE. That is because IE is already partially loaded as part of windows. IE is built into the OS and is loaded when the OS starts.

FF has to do a cold start when it is first started...but after that it takes only 2-3 seconds.

Damn, I use to think that that was a myth because a lot of people say that Firefox loads just as fast on startup. But if there is a logical reason for IE to load faster than I've been owned! :blush: Well, that means back to IE for me.

Try viewing some pornographical pages, they include many spyware/adware for FireFox, you get promted to install a Mozilla extension and it shows you the green puzzle icon. And the funny thing is they are selected by default, the same problem as with IE's ActiveX so if user does not read but rather hits enter he will install it, the difference is the Firefox user does not believe he has spyware because he has not been using IE

You must be smoking something too. I have only gotten one from one website, where it happens once you click a button. Even so, all you do it click cancel and its gone. With IE not only do you get more, and get them just by entering the website ect, plus in the end you get a TON more with IE than with firefox.

Too add another point also, firefox's default interface has to be the most well thought out, clean, and most usefull I have ever seen.

And the bookmark manager in IE makes me want to :x
