[DEFINITIVE] Gmail queue !

Recommended Posts

oh 300 posts... i guess im out of the queue then eh?

Yes, unfortunately, until you have 300 posts, you are not elligible; this is to ensure that people don't join simply to get a Gmail account, and to reduce the hoards of Neowin members who want an account to a slightly more manageable size, and to reward those who have sustained Neowin by posting in it for a time.

I am going to speak to the Admin's as soon as I can about a new 'Invite Distro System' that can be somewhat Neowin Official. :)

Perhaps a List of Names that Doners can look through, choose who they want and then after the people have their invites a Moderator could go through and delete those posts as to keep things orderly. :)

A queue is a great idea, however, some people do not like that to give out their invites and it is their business on how they do it so a list they can choose from or go in order would be a good idea.

Thoughts?

I like the idea. I don't think that donors should necessarily be forced to give a Gmail invitation to a certain person, but we should have a system so that donors know who to invite, and so we don't have a deluge of "I have 1 Gmail invite" posts on Neowin. However, how would we manage the list of names? Would people post and ask to be added? If so, it would be incredibly hard to maintain if someone isn't monitoring the thread constantly. Maybe if you want to be added, you have to PM someone, and that person adds your name to a locked list, or something like that. However, then that person might max out on PM's. There are numerous ways we could do this, but we need to make sure that it's orderly and easy to use, so donors don't start throwing out random invitations out of frustration.

Basically how my idea would work is this.

New Thread Created by Moderator/Admin

Member goes to the thread and posts their name as a 'Want an Account'

Moderator goes through and adds their name to a Master List in the first post

GMail Giver goes to thread, looks over the names, chooses who they want to give their invite to and PM's the info to the person AND the Moderator so they can see the invite sent.

Moderator removes the persons name from the list and their 'Want an account' post from the thread.

Member enjoys their GMail
