That was a good post dude.

Bizkit: If that was referring to me, thanks. It just irks the hell out of me when these type of things happen on forums, need XXXX posts rather than been a member for XXXX days/months/years, etc. Like I said, I admire the membership length, if people were only signing up for this to get an invite (in this case), by the time the required membership period comes into effect, GMail *should* be available. Minimal number of posts requirements on any forum for anything is a load of BS to me because as I said before, I (and I'm sure lots of others as I've seen a few here already) don't post often but when I (we when it applies) do post, the post actually means something or contributes in a positive manner to the topic on hand.

Since I don't want to go through all 18+ 40 posts-per-page pages to see if this has been mentioned (although I did see a few comments saying basically the same thing), I just thought I'd drop a little note here about the rules. The 5 month member is great, but the bit about 300 or more posts (of course this would since I haven't reached that yet) is what I personally think is a little sad. Just because someone doesn't post every day, or every week for that matter (this is probably my first post in months), that shouldn't exclude them. I've yet to reach 200 posts let alone 300, but I've been here for over two years. I visit Neowin on average 4 times per day, every day, but because I don't post a lot it excludes me from this? Not that I want in or anything, or that I would refuse an invite if given, I'm just expressing my views on how the post limit rule is unfair for those members like myself prefer to lurk rather than post. Now if it was by seniority I would have nothing to complain about, even if there were 2000 people ahead of me, as it wouldn't mean I'd have to post in topics that a) questions have been answered, b) my opinion would cause a flamewar, c) just to add another comment praising something when 200 other people have, and I could go on. Besides, it isn't all about the number of posts, but the quality of posts. Isn't it? That's just my two cents.

I said something to that extent, as of now I've given away 3 accounts to people at Neowin (and have 2 more), 2 of which were people with well under 1,000 posts. My point was, I'm not going to give it to someone I've never seen here before, but I'd be more than happy to add my name to this list to help some people out. Last time I said I had some invites, I got a handfuls of PMs from people with 50 or less posts, who had signed up in the last month!

So I'll rephrase, since I have two more to hand out, 1,000 posts or you've been here longer than I have. I don't want to give them to just random people, I didn't want to start my own thread, but I'd like to give them to Neowin users.

also I think people with more posts are more trustworthy and would most likley donate them to neowin as opposed to a person with 5 posts who signed up just to get them.

I can understand your point of view [yours as well FatCat] with "not seeing someone here before", so looking at it that way opens my eyes a little more on the post count requirement, but doesn't entirely change my stance. As stated, I wasn't posting to put my name in the running, and if in fact it is, please remove my name as I have received an invite from a friend ::wink::, but surely pass it on to somone else here. And threetonesun, I really do applaud your the way you intend to handle your invites by offering them to the users who not only have the high post counts, but have been here for as long as we have. I also plan to give at least one of my initial invites back to Neowin (family requested two), and will most likely do it the same way you are planning to do so.

It was made toward your post. Very good post and I like the way that you only post the good qyality posts. You are right, its not how many posts you have, but how good they are.

I have to agree with threetonesun. I don't have much posts on these forums. But I have been here for a long time. Everyday I'm here reading stuff for some hours (news and forums). That might not be a contribution (or how is that called) but it does mean loyalty to neowin.net. If I get an invite, I'll sure try too bring an invite or two back to neowin

4 Invites for Gmail; 1 on hold

Provide your first name, last name, and a valid reason for wanting it. (I did this earlier, this morning they gave me 6 invites, and now 5 tonight.)

Also, since im doing this VERY SELECTIVELY, you may offer to trade me things you have and if I like them ill give you the Gmail Invite no questions asked. Sorry, becoming very selective on who gets them.

Post your replies! Ill edit this post and post another when they've been used.

Here's the list, if you want to give invites in this thread then pm these 4 people.

ChicoCahill

RaGe-

Kombatant

Test Zero

If not following the thread then make a new, we are using the list for a reason :p

If you are asking for trades, etc go to ebay.

I have three invites to give away, I want to know who the next three on the list are ??? in order to stop any fighting over the invites. :)

If someone can PM the next 3 people in the list I would be very grateful. :)

    • Sandboxie Plus 1.17.8 / Classic 5.72.8 by Razvan Serea Run programs in a sandbox to prevent malware from making permanent changes to your PC. Sandboxie allows you to run your browser, or any other program, so that all changes that result from the usage are kept in a sandbox environment, which can then be deleted later. Sandboxie is a sandbox-based isolation software for 32- and 64-bit Windows NT-based operating systems. It is being developed by David Xanatos since it became open source, before that it was developed by Sophos (which acquired it from Invincea, which acquired it earlier from the original author Ronen Tzur). It creates a sandbox-like isolated operating environment in which applications can be run or installed without permanently modifying the local or mapped drive. An isolated virtual environment allows controlled testing of untrusted programs and web surfing. Sandboxie is available in two flavors Plus and Classic. Both have the same core components, this means they have the same level of security and compatibility. What's different is the user interface the Plus build has a modern Qt based UI which supports all new features that have been added since the project went open source. The Classic build has the old no longer developed MFC based UI, hence it lacks support for modern features, these features can however still be used when manually configured in the Sandboxie.ini. Sandboxie Plus 1.17.8 / Classic 5.72.8 release notes: Added added DisableCustomTitleOpt=[process,][y|n] to allow [#] sandboxie title markers on custom-titlebar windows (Delphi VCL, Qt, Electron) that were previously skipped to prevent DWM repaint CPU loops #5387 Changed updated bundled ImDisk driver to 3.0.2 #5419 Fixed fix Suppress logs for expected non-user SIDs #5422 SbieSvc.exe: SBIE2218/2219 error when run program as administrator #5417 fixed explorer.exe crashes in Application Compartment when Huorong Security is installed #5423 Download: Sandboxie Plus (64-bit) | 23.5 MB (Open Source) Download: Sandboxie Classic (64-bit) | 3.0 MB Links: Sandboxie Website | GitHub | ARM64 | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • Hello, Christian Maas' XVI32 is a nice (and very small) hex editor. Speaking of hex editors, many years ago a colleague and I who both worked at Tribal Voice managed to edit a copy of the company's PowWow instant messaging client to make it behave better now that all of its lookup servers and other server-side tech was gone.  The program didn't support NAT (RFC-3022 was introduced in January 2001, the same time Tribal Voice was shuttered), but it still worked okay if you manually set up port-forwarding on your router.  The server at http://powwow.jazy.net/ hosts a copy (usual warnings about downloading and running untrusted code from random internet servers apply). I occasionally use some tools like Funduc Software's Search and Replace and Application Mover when I need to make mass-edits to text-based files or move programs with a hard-coded installation directories, respectively.  When I need to figure out the exact LCD panel inside of a laptop, EnTech Taiwan's Monitor Asset Manager is my go-to tool for that purpose. JD Design's website (now hosted on github.io) has a number of interesting freeware and shareware utilities.  I used to use their TouchPro utility to set the file timestamps on software I was mastering to match its version number (e.g., version 3.00 of a program had all of its files dates set to 3:00AM, and so forth). Karenware has a number of interesting freeware utilities, too. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • I still use HexChat! Not really as ancient as the 1994 AutoCAD above my post, but I have never found anything better to replace it. Yes we still operate an IRC server https://www.neowin.net/irc/ 😛
    • At work we still have a couple of people that use a version of AutoCAD LT purchased in 1994. This predates Windows 95 and works fine on versions of Windows up to XP. Its long since run in an locked down isolated XP VM, accessible via RDP. I did install LibreCAD for them, however they said it was just too different to get to grips with. In all fairness one of them is now 75 and the other is almost 60.
