X Statik Process
Hello everyone, I have a quick question. Do MAC addresses change? I mean, are the addresses branded to a network card? or can they change like a dynamic IP address? The reason I am asking is because I enable MAC filtering on my router to block a particular individual from access the NET. If they reboot, will their MAC address change? Is there anyway for them to circumvent my block? I had them blocked by IP address, but LAN IP addresses seem to change. Thanks.
OPaul
They are usually permanent, hard codded to the card. There is software available to change a MAC address and some cards allow you to change via the Device Manager.
Eversurf
You are pretty safe with what you are doing (BLocking by MAC Address) because most people don't know how to change their MAC address. Put a Username and password Authentication on top of that and you should be fine. Have fun.
