Your Development Tools/Environment on Linux

Question

I wanted to hear from those of you who write sites and applications on Linux...

What utilities and tech should there be installed on the server to let you do the job?

Obviously PHP, Perl, Apache, FTP/SSH etc. what else?

As I'm a newbie to web programming on Linux, I'd appreciate your comments.

If you are looking at going purely Linux, then I'm not sure what is best. But responding to the subject I personally have a IIS server at work that I do ASP on. But I work within linux using gvim. Vim is an awesome editor. I also do my database planning and design using MS Access through an rdesktop window :$

Aside from what you mentioned, any libraries you need (such as Smarty, PEAR, ImageMagick, NetPBM, etc.). For editors, I use jEdit and gPHPEdit.

Components like that are exactly what I'm looking for.

Thank you all for your comments.

Are there any utilities that come specifically in the SUSE distribution that might be relevant?

Looking through the possibilities there are over 200 modules that could be loaded, of course I'd only like to load what might be useful...
