ascii characters on a powerbook?

Recommended Posts

How would I type various ascii characters on my powerbook (or on macs in general?)

I don't see any kind of character map and the various ALT+Numpad combinations don't seem to do anything on a mac

option+e followed by a vowel = ?????

option+u followed by a vowel = ?????

option+i followed by a vowel = ?????

the rest can be done by holding down option + another key or shift+option+another key

in jaguar, apple had an app you could use to find out what character would be created if you pressed such-and-such... they removed this in panther, and tucked it away in a menu extra. there was a hint over on macosxhints on how to bring it back with an applescript, so i made it. here ya go:

Key_Caps.app
