Wow a lot of people hate comcast.

While Excite@home a few years ago was much faster (unrestricted download) why would you need a higher upload than 30kb a second unless you were trying to host some sort of server (ftp, filesharing, game, etc.) because really you don't need more than 30kb to just join a game.

Not to mention that 3mbps is not bad for cable these days. My cable goes out maybe 3 hours a month but half the time its because my modem and/or router is going nutty.

Good review. Finally a little unbiased. It seems that everyone that has a slight dissatisfaction with a company these days immediately hates them. Stop being introverted and call them up... complain and whoopa they credit your account $10.

Seriously you need to stop complaining. If you hate comcast, go back to your dialup or pay for a t1+ line.

Damn whiners.

PS... for those that actually do use comcast's usenet... try netnews.comcast.net... no caps.

My biggest problem with Comcast is that I never get upload speeds faster than 15 KB/s. When I call they point me to DSLreports speed tests, and I run them and it says 120 KB/s. They say that's the speed and everything's fine. But EVERY real-world thing I use it for--uploading from home to my web server, pulling files from my home computer while I'm at my office, uploading to other web sites, etc--never gets above 15 KB/s. It's really ****ing me off, and they won't do anything about it.

Upload speeds are poopy with Comcast, but other than that I've never had a problem. I get 380 kb down all the time 3 years now. Works for me. Who needs newsgroups when there is IRC?

ummm irc you have to deal with queues, idiots, script kiddies... newsgroups... you just go to newzbin.com find what you want (which is there 90% of the time and readily available) and download it.

So usenet/newsgroups vs. IRC

1. Faster

2. Hardly any human interaction involved

3. Easier to find hard to find titles

4. Less steps involved

5. More reliable

Yes but your fogetting an issue:

Newsgroups = Not free (at least for the majority of Comcast's users)

IRC = Free

Yes, IRC you have to deal with retards. But hey, it's not that big of a deal. If you MUST download a ton, you have to pay for a good news service. No ifs ands or butts. If you are lucky enough to be an ex-attbi customer like me, you get unlimited downloads from the server, but the retention is literally 12 hours.

The webmail is nice - 10 MB - eeh. You also get 10 MB of web hosting. You get FTP access.

You are also allowed up to six additional e-mail addresses, for a total of seven.

And you get 25MB of webspace per account, for a total of 175MB of online storage.

I can't complain about comcast speeds. I've been using it for a year now and the speeds are good, but i dont even bother going on their site. It's slow, worthless with a lot of junk on it. For their email i just use outlook express so i wont have to go on comcast.net hehe...i give comcast a 6 out of 10

As much as I hate comcast, I must say they are at least decent. Pings are low, speeds are fair, and they'll only gripe if you download 100+ gig a month. They haven't gone so low as to block ports or check for servers, which quite a few ISPs do (although they are now blocking port 25 only for the obvious zombie/spam machines).

Judging by all the mixed reviews and comments, I think its safe to say at least this: You pay for what you get...if you want 100+ GB d/l bandwith a month, then get a T1 or something, but if you're going to comment on how the limits hold you back, just make sure you keep in mind that the company is catering to millions of customers and therefore can't let everyone have free reign. I have Adelphia down here and I haven't had problems yet but I have to switch to Comcast because I'm moving so ya'll got me a little worried.

I have Comcast in PDX. The download speed is great (2.5-3 Mb/s) but up is only ~0.4 Mb/s. I'm overall pretty satisfied with it.

The support is craptacular, but normally you don't really need support from an ISP unless your cable goes down, the DNS goes down, or the e-mail goes down.

Holy crud you guys are being ripped off. Rogers is providing 5mbps service for 24.99 per month (CAD) with Yahoo Premium services (meaning LAUNCHcast Plus, Yahoo Plus! 2 gig mail, 500mb Yahoo Photos, 300mb Yahoo Briefcase, plus others)

All the crap Rogers has done in the past has now been forgiven. lol

offtopic, but will whats the YzDock like thing in the first screenshot? lol. (assuming I didnt just answer my own question, because whenever i played with them, i couldnt get it to stay on top and be transparent, as well it would prevent XP from shutting down for some reason).

1. sometimes, it depends on who's DCCing it to you, i've had IRC be faster about half the time.

2.Same on IRC now, everyone uses bots

3.Your just not looking on the right servers then.

You're all whining about a 3Mbps connection? Man... Im stuck here with a 256kbps connection which USED to be a 1.6Mbps connection (Found out they were just promoting) So if you ever come to Brunei, you'd be glad with what you have! And Im paying a premium just for this connection, US$93!!! PSscccchhhh! Max I can get out of this crap connection is 30kB/s... Which is sad, although Steam downloads at 300kB/s which is really weird...

      There is nothing wrong with this title. You have completely missed the plot when it comes to "clickbait." The issue was never that a title tries to entice you to click, that is how titles have worked for over 100 years. The issue is when the title subverts expectations, getting you to click expecting something that isn't there. The classic clickbait example is "Boyfriend caught cheating, what happens next will shock you," then what happened next is the girlfriend was upset...which is probably the least shocking outcome imaginable. If sounds like what you want is for the titles to be a collection of 10-word summaries that you can skim, get the just of the story, and only click if you want more details. That is not, never has been, and never will be what titles are. You can go all the way back to print newspapers during the great depression and see the same thing. The newspaper was locked in a vending machine, all you can see is the headline, you choose to put in 5¢ to buy the paper and read the rest if you want. Those headlines were written in a way to sell the paper, not just to provide a summery. Here are two actual headlines from that time, "Wall Street Lays an Egg," or "Stocks Hit Bottom?" Maybe you'd say something like "it was wrong then and it's still wrong now." Okay, fine opinion to have, but it isn't like Neowin is doing something unjurnalistic, they are just following the age-old standards for written media.
