DesktopWeather Beta 3

Question

DesktopWeather Beta 3 is available to download from my page Here. 3nd3r was nice enough to host me. The old site address will redirect you to the new site but be sure to update your favorites. DesktopWeather Beta 3 is now based on the Microsoft.Net Framework. You will need to have this installed in order to run DesktopWeather Beta 3. A link is provided on my site. Thats about it, but be sure to note the changes in DesktopWeather Beta 3 below. I hope you all enjoy and be sure to leave a comment or request at my site under the DesktopWeather Beta 3 post and/or here. Thanks.

Some changes:

-To move: Click and drag the Current Weather picture.

-To access menu: Double click or right click Current Weather picture.

-Matrox

Edit: 5 mirrors up for downloading.

I downloaded and installed desktop weather beta 3 and I get this problem...Look Here ...and it goes away sometimes, but then it always ends up like the screenshot again. It doesn't affect the performance of the program...the program works fine....but it looks kinda ugly...I guess maybe I'm the only one with the problem. What do you think it could be?...:s

Yes I mentioned this problem a page back. Does it happen when you have Media Player open and go away sometime after it is closed? That's what it's like for me.

It does that for me too, whenever I have Power DVD open. Power DVD also affects CoolMon, and Klipfolio - those 2 and Desktop Weather all flash non-stop while a movie is playing.

Well, it usually happens whenever anything is opened up on top of it...IE..MMJB..Win-Amp..THE START MENU...but it goes away after everything has been closed for a while..

Another thing I might have found ... is the menu supposed to look like this?

The Cleartype issue won't be a problem if you use a non-TrueType font for the program, like MS Sans Serif (the font I use for coolmon). Non TrueType fonts don't get smoothed. Of course, if you could fix the TrueType thing, that'd be great :)

DesktopWeather Beta 3.1 is now available for download. I added a few bug fixes and a ClearType fix. Download it from Here.

It would be nice if this was shown in the Neowin Software News Section :).

Thanks to all who tested and to Mith for posting in News section.

It's still telling me that there is a newer version everytime I run it. I tried deleting the registry entries abd re-running it, but it still happens.

I ran into a bug...well...I don't know what you'd really call it, but here's what happened. I updated my NAV 2002, which probably has nothing to do with it, but that's what I did. Anyway....it asked me to restart my comp...so I did. It restarted and I logged on and I got these errors from .Net framework. And then I hit QUIT...desktop weather came up like it shows in the screenshot. I connected to the internet again and went into the options menu and then I hit ok in the options menu and it dissapeared and then reappeared witht the updated info. I guess even if it's not a bud, it was certainly weird. Here's the error and the pic of desktop weather....PIC

I'm using 3.1 and the updated .net framework Service pack 1, and DesktopWeather is using 20MB of memory. Seems kinda high.

There's still that media player 6.4 thing where if you're playing a clip, the transparency goes away.

Also, I don't know if this is new with this version, but the system gets kinda sluggish and task manager will not open if DW and media player are running. Some things also will not expand from the task tray.

    • MVS subscribers got the proper 26200.8655 Win11 25H2 ISO downloads as of 6/16/2026 avoiding this whole MCT fiasco by MS. I'll obtain the official 8655 MVS ISO download instead.
    • too bad the "backend" June 2026 ESD files are still at build 26200.8653 and not at the correct build 26200.8655 release. I'll avoid using the MCT for several weeks until late July 2026
    • Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip brings on-device AI to Android XR devices by Pradeep Viswanathan Qualcomm has been delivering dedicated SoCs for mixed reality and spatial computing devices for several years. The journey started with the Snapdragon XR1, followed by the Snapdragon XR2 in 2019, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 in September 2023, and finally the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 in 2024. Today, Qualcomm announced a major upgrade with the new Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform, which targets premium mixed reality and spatial computing devices. OEMs can use this SoC to power both all-in-one video-see-through headsets and lightweight, tethered optical-see-through glasses. Qualcomm highlighted that the Snapdragon Reality Elite will power the next wave of Android XR devices coming later this year. These wearables will offer better visuals, improved power efficiency, and deeper on-device AI integration compared to the previous generation. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can deliver up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, allowing large language models and large vision models to run directly on the device for the first time. In addition to enabling new spatial AI experiences, these new AI capabilities will improve head and hand tracking, as well as see-through features. On the performance side, the Snapdragon Reality Elite offers up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 30% higher CPU performance, and up to 160% higher NPU performance compared to the previous generation. The platform supports visuals of up to 4.4K per eye at 90 frames per second for sharper images and smoother motion. Qualcomm is also claiming significant efficiency improvements. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can offer up to 20% longer battery life under the same workload. More importantly, the chipset can run up to 12 degrees Celsius cooler under load, making headsets more comfortable for users to wear for longer periods. The platform also includes improvements to video see-through, featuring lower latency and better image quality. Qualcomm states that its EVA hardware block helps accelerate demanding computer vision workloads, improving how digital content blends with the real world.
    • Umm... GitHub continues to use AWS. That's the story, that's the headline. There's no "new" news here. GitHub continues to require additional capacity beyond the originally-planned Azure allocations. There's nothing special about this; nothing noteworthy. They're still using AWS' infra until the cutover is complete.
