The same logic could be applied to popular votes too.

If you and 32 million others vote and 34 million vote for the other guy 32 million people just 'wasted' their time because their guy didn't win the country.

I think what he means is that it doesn't mean anything because it doesn't even contribute to the final result. In a popular vote your candidate may lose, but at least you brought him one vote closer to winning. It gives a much greater incentive. Every single vote brings one candidate either closer to or further from victory. Every single vote counts. This is not so under the current system.

Why should my vote count less than some chump from Rhode Island? :p
