Do an "rm" on there program directories.

Umm.. No.

MEPIS is based on Debian.

Therefore you should uninstall an application using apt-get or by using an apt-get based frontend (like aptitude or Synaptic).

Doing a proper uninstall will remove the application directory, remove the menu entry from the Debian menus and not screw up apt-get should you want to reinstall the application in the future.

oh, and i just found out that, contrary to what i said earlier, it comes with support for .rar files out of the box. i also just noticed it has a front end for installing and uninstalling apps called kpackage.

kpackage comes with Knoppix too. The only thing that I use it for is to install Synaptic. I guess it does the job but it is butt ugly.

thanks. im actually reinstalling mepis ATM cause the hdd i had it installed on was a 4 year old 8gig and it was shaking around and clicking and stuff so i ripped it out and began a reinstall.

Edit: install done.

Edit Edit: how cool is it that i can go on neowin and install mepis at the same time?

DAMN IT!

i restarted and then it said that my hardrivw contained errors and then ran a disk check then it restarted an started running the test again.

i just ripped out the drive and am going to backup my data on this other pc and then format it blank and then reinstall, again.

Is this on the same hd that you mentioned earlier? :o

ok, so i go and put the 120giger into my other pc and boot up. then, i get a message saying no operating system found on any device? WTF?

anyway, im back on the 8giger right now. its not shaking anymore so im hoping it will be ok, for the time being.

Edit: no, it was the big good hardrive that had errors.
