BFG 6800 GT OC Review

Recommended Posts

That's a very nice reivew, but would you consider doing another bench? http://www.aquamark3.com/ is the one I'm talking about, and the demo just has one benchmark option with preset stats, could you do that? It would help me to compare better, since I don't have farcry, 3dmark here.

Thanx in advance!

The X800 supports SM2b. Realistically SM3 only offers more options to developers which makes it easier to code and can lead to speed enhancments because of dynamic branching and other additions, but that only applies to shaders with long instructions. SM3 will not show any benefits to the end consumer for at least another year, at which time the card will be slow at any rate. Unreal Engine 3 is a good example of this. You can see the differences between the various shader models here.

The real advantage the 6800 has over the X800 is FP blending which can speed up HDR rendering and is much easier to implement.

bravo.. finally someone who knows wat he's talking about..

Nice review! To bad the GT doesn't come with Dual DVI..

actually both X800 and 6800 were shown with Dual-DVI, but for some reason no manufacturer got it to the market yet, perhaps they think there is no demand to pay for their investment.

well my best guess is that only the high end (XT PE and ULTRA) got it? :s dunno for sure...

Nvidia's reference designs only called for dual dvi on the 6800 Ultra. ATI's reference designs didn't show off dual dvi on any of their agp models, however the PCIE X800 XT is dual dvi. In the end it's completely up to the manufacturers as all models are very capable of supporting either methods.

Very good review a great job. The card performs well it seems however I think personally I will be needing a little more so I'll wait until I can cough up a good amount of life savings for my 6800 lol.

You mention that you used ForceWare 61.71 and that it's not WHQL certified, well I honestly think 3dmark scores will be quite off. Using WHQL approved drivers will assure you get accurate results in 3dmark i mean I know 61.71 is a big improvment but just becuase you get higher marks doesn't neccesarly mean its accurate.

Anyways great review hope your happy with your card and hope it lasts you long too. Oh and would of been nice to see some in game screenshots heh oh fook it I'm asking too much now lol.

3DMark doesn't represent anything, anyway.

The GT is an amazing card.

I rember i was doing a test once in Americas army with my 9800Pro.

I turned on full AA, AF. I wen't to a certain place in SF hospital. My FPS was around 10-20 i guess.

I did the same thing, with this card. Same place 60-70 FPS wohaa ! Thats pretty nice :p

I like Dirty Larry's review. His was first btw. ;) This one should be merge into his. :p

Thank You Samoa, but truth be told, but I give credit where credit is due...
