What Software/Hardware runs on Windows, not Linux

Recommended Posts

Yup i started the other thread... but this one is anti-flame.

I for one cant run Linux, why?

iPod, DvD burner (nero), Media center PC (TV server), office (school), Premire (video), Photoshop (images), Dreamweaver (web, learning), iTunes (mp3 library), Remote desktop (concurrent w/ sp2 hack), IM clients (MSN, yahoo, AIM, voide chat, video conf), CPU hack windows only (shuts down cpu to keep it cool), IE (alot of sites dont work with Mozilla, http://www.blogger.com/start dont work), Webcam, suprnova.org (works better with windows, he he), etc.

Finally,

Games !!!

I always hear people saying they run Linux... dont they use apps?

guess they only use the OS and run Mozilla browser and email client...

am I wrong?

well i don't know about the iPod bit, but everything you've said is tripe.

DVD burning - k3b

office - Open Office

Remote Desktop - TightVNC

IM Clients - gaim (the only one you'll ever need)

graphics - The Gimp (not as good as photoshop i know)

the bittorent client for linux I find alot better.

I have seen a CPU hack to keep the CPU cool aswell.

everything else can be done through wine i believe.

USB printers work fine, don't have a scanner so wouldn't know.

do some research before you post, then tell people the downfalls of linux.

Oh and I have a Microtek usb scanner and an HP Laserjet usb printer, both work fine with every distro I've used since Mandrake 8.1

Anyone know how to get a Lexmark Z45 to work under Linux? I tried for almost 2 years to get one working on numerous distributions and releases and none of them supported it. So, I'll say yeah, USB Printing Support isn't up to par with Windows.

He didn't say that he needed alternatives for his Windows software. He said that the windows software he uses NOW, and that are not available on the *nix platform keeps him away from linux.

Who knows, maybe he actually thinks that MS office KICKS SOME SH!T OUT OF OPENOFFICE ? and all kind of things like that.

I, IMHO, totally agrees with him.

For 500 dollars it had better be good. OO.o is more than adequate for the average user though.

Yeah, I have to agree. But, honestly, who pays even a buck for a MS app here.

Oh, uh.. I do, yeah, yeah. I do. :ninja:

Good for you. Seriously, its funny. People like you are the ones who are gonna end up killing windows. Keep up the good work soldier.

I don't see how going to school and not having enough money to buy my own software yet, and choosing to install a pirate copy of XP and Office hurts MS more than just not giving a fcuk about them and installing Linux.

Do you know why ? Or are you being sarcastic and trying to diss me only because I dissed Linux ?

Linux fanboys are so cool.

/edit

Oh, BTW. I almost forgot. I'm currently learning c++ and "Windows Platform" software development at uni.

so, please, Shut the fcuk Up.

who gives a flying sh!t?

pirated XP is 'the thing to do' for now...but wait til SP2 comes out, then you'll have to crack it with a keygen once again once someone releases one, and then on top of that you'll get denied from windowsupdate5.

i play it safe, i use both

In that case, he should run Windows®!

If he *needs* to run IE.

If he *needs* to run Microsoft's MSN Messenger.

If he *needs* to run Outlook Express.

If.. You get the idea.

He needs to just run Windows and quit bitching that Linux isn't Windows! :rolleyes:

I agree. Why do people come in here just to diss on Linux? If they don't like it, don't use it! But then they just feel the need to come in here and flame.

I, personally, like both really. Linux teaches me and I use Windows when I just don't feel like messing with something (or I need it to work right away, or something is Windows only that there's no Linux alternatives for, like my online video lectures for classes only work in IE or something).

hmm lets see with codeweavers crossover (think of it like a plug-in..or an installer)...you can install and run office 2k/xp/2003 (100% on 2k/xp) install msn, trillian,whatever IM you want, install IE and have it work 100%, outlook express is no problem, pretty much any ms product other than the operating system it will install and run with no problems.

and yes i have tried and still use it since i need MS visio, project, source safe, and office for projects since i need them to be 100% compatible with fellow students work.

here is a list of what it supports

# Microsoft Office XP, 2000 and 97

* Microsoft Word

* Microsoft Excel

* Microsoft PowerPoint

* Microsoft Outlook

* Microsoft Internet Explorer

# Microsoft Access *

# Microsoft Project

# Adobe Photoshop

# Microsoft Visio

# Lotus Notes 5.0 and 6.5.1

# Quicken

# Various Web Browser Plugins

* QuickTime

* Shockwave Director

* Windows Media Player 6.4

officially it supports only upto xp, but ive had no problems with 2003

I love linux and haven't had any problem with anything except for the fact that there are not much game support. The only game I really play on linux is Quake3 Urban Terror mod and other mods.

BF Vietnam I got to work once with Cedera, but it's a b1tch to setup and now it's always asking me for the damn cd and doesn't load. AAAAAAARG!

GAME DEVELOPERS PLEASE START MAKING LINUX PORT OR SOMETHING FOR GAMES.

I give props for the UT2004 Linux version. The linux demo runs a hell of a lot faster on my deiban box than windows xp....

linux isnt going to take over the desktop market anytime soon so i dont kno why ppl are worrying , its actually a minority cant really do **** in it and windows can do the same =]

not bagging linux at all but the ease of windows overtakes the headaches of installing linux , and b4 someone goes its easy to install try getting a distro of linux to update and do everything when it has absolutly no support for the network card u have in ya box

yet windows almost 9times out of 10 it works first go =]

I agree. Why do people come in here just to diss on Linux?

The same reason that people jump into Apple threads and say that OS X sucks. The same reason people jump into Windows threads where someone is asking for help only to say "Use linux!@!@!!1!". The same reason that people say that Bill Gates is evil, that linux is better because it's free, that Apple is built on higher quality hardware because it costs more, that Windows has all these bluescreens, that all Mac fans care about is cute icons, that if you build an OS that any idiot can use, only an idiot will use it, that XP shouldn't come packaged with WMP even though Linux distros usually come with an optional 5 or so media players, both command line and GUI.

Lets keep going.

Windows users are mindless sheep. Mac users are fanatical cult members that would buy a turd if it was brushed aluminum and had an apple stamped on it. Linux users are unwashed communistic zealots that want something cheap and are looking for nothing more than a free ride. Windows users are ignorant and will accept whatever Microsoft deems they want. Apple users are ignorant and will accept whatever Apple deems they want. Can't say that about Linux users, I guess, since they can just switch distros. But they still need to shower. You could go on and on, but I'm losing interest.

Bottom line is, just fscking use FreeBSD, and *know* you're better than everyone else. Then you can observe the world in smug disinterest. ;)

Seriously though, who cares about all this? Use what you want. You know who you are and what you need more than anyone else, especially a bunch of nobody strangers you get into a text-based argument with on the internet. Why care? This is all only as real as you make it, so why waste time caring about any of this nonsense? Like Windows? Use it. Linux? Use it? Mac? Drink your cappuchino and stfu, you snobby ******...

(j/k) ;)
