Allow a total noob who can't read a tutorial or MSDN article to create a slipstreamed CD.

It?s not only that. I use to make slipstreamed disks the old way; you know command prompt and the RUN window along with long command:cry:y: . This makes life a hell of a lot easer. You no longer have to hassle with memorizing commands or what no:jump:p::jump:p::jump:p:. Plus its a one stop shop so to speak as it does every thing for you including making the disk image bootable and what not. No more hassles.

Slic:D:D

The "error 5" happens when you try to open an XP folder or original disk in "windows share" option; just when you clik on the hard disk folder or when the software is starting to access the XP cd.

I am using Windows XP SP1

About the unknown build problem I solved it: it was a broken download (as you said), discovered executing it. The build is: 5.1.2600.2180 (SP2)

(i answered you there because I got error sending you a private message (it told me that the user "nw_raptor" is not registered)

Just found this post today while searching for slipstreaming on other forums.. installed and ran autostreamer with 0 errors and copied the cd just fine with Nero 5.5.9.14.. does it require 6 or should I be ok? It autoruns when I put it in the cdrom but haven't booted from it quite yet since I'm not yet ready.. waitin for my new graphics card to slick my machine :)

Is there a way to find out if the copy worked? or just have to wait until it gets installed?

1- Unpack the .zip in a folder with spaces ora characters like ?????.

2- Run the program from that folder.

3- Select to use the original CD or a folder (it's the same)

4- In the next screen try to explore folder or the CD ("windows share" option)

The error now occurs.

Boot from the CD.

the only way you can be 100% sure a windows cd is ok is to actually install it... most people just check if it's bootable... but my experience dictates that's not enough... nero 5(.5) should be ok though, just as long as you used Disc-At-Once :D

I was able to boot off it earlier.. however I used the Track-At-Once method.. will that pose a problem? Should I just toss that copy away and reburn it?

I tried spaces, but still nothing... "D:\AUTO STREAMER" should do it, right? Also, the source is located in a path full of spaces... "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98\AutoStreamer" but still it works...

When i tried special chars (Greek ones) i did get the error... but not with spaces...

Tada! 1.0.30b2! I said it would be ready and it is! And quite early!

Things to have in mind

1. AutoStreamer folder should handle special characters now

2. Since i had to change some critical bits of code, check if everything works fine...

3. In the last screen, pick which progress indicators you prefer...

4. ...because it's quite messy there atm (things on top of others)

5. if a subfolder named UPDATES exists in I386 folder AutoStreamer will not continue...

6. ...since Slipstreaming doesnt work on those...

7. This release is BETA... If you're not into this stuff, don't download it! Instead, download this release (1.0.29)

Download (Public BETA)

AutoStreamer 1.0.30b2

Kind regards,

Antonis (a.k.a. Raptor)

I've downloaded autostreamer and tried to use it; however I can't get beyond trying to figure out where to go with the $autostreamer$ temp file. I've tried about every thing I know how. I'm sure one of you can tell what I'm overlooking or what I need to do. I was in hopes this would simplify the slipstream and burn process. I used the old tried and true "cmd" and steps to slipstream XP and SP2 and used iso buster for the boot image file. I have found many examples of how to burn the slipstreamed cd using Nero or Easy cd creator. I hope someone can tell me how to accomplish the cd burn using Deepburner.

Since you mentioned $AutoStreamer$ (temp folder) i guess you are using CD mode... step-by-step:

Preparing:

Extract the ZIP file's contents to a local folder where you have sufficient permissions (meaning read/write). Do not extract only AutoStreamer.exe and do not double-click it within the archive. There's high chance things will go wrong.

Running:

First you have to select between CD or share mode. If you want to use your original xp cd as a source, go with cd mode. If you have a network share which contains the setup files, pick share mode.

Step 1:

--CD Mode: If you pick cd mode, AutoStreamer will attempt to read your pc's cd drives to detect any windows cds. If you have already inserted your cd in, AS will find it. If not, insert it, and click on the first magnifying glass icon to detect it. After detection suceeds, pick the service pack file by clicking the second magnifying glass icon. AS will attempt to detect what kind of file it is. If all goes well and its a valid SP file (meaning its the correct version, and newer than the source, it is valid) you will be ready to continue to step 2.

--Share Mode: Same as CD Mode, however, the first magnifying glass will prompt you for a valid hard drive location (local or network drive will do). Version detection works here as well. Again, you will have to pick SP file, and AS will verify that everything is good to go...

Step 2:

It's time to label the CD image. you can give any name you want. I usually name it WINXPSP2_EN or something... Next you have to pick the output file location... I use C:\WINXPSP2_EN.ISO...

gwhiz1time205... AutoStreamer actually asked where you want it saved. That's where you'll find it...

chunkee... 802,002 KB could mean 802 KB or 802 MB... depends where you live... decimal point is comma for countries like Greece (we use dots to group digits), but its dot for countries like the US (they use commas to group digits).

now, if its 802KB and you used your original XP CD, it means there was a heavy read error...

if its 802MB it means that your OEM CD was already quite big and with SP2 it got even bigger... Slipstreaming over SP1 CDs leaves left over files which do take up space... since 802MB is quite a lot, i'd guess there must be a lot of extra stuff you could just delete...

Yes, you are right ! Spaces do not cause the error !!! It was my mistake because I used brackets ( ) in the folder name. The error in fact happens even with brackets in folder name, but NOT with spaces !!! (Maybe some library that do not contain those special charsets).

I am so sorry for the inconvenience but I am glad to see that you solved the problem ! GREAT !!!

Again, I hope I had been useful ! ;-)

    • I disagree; they come off very "bitchy" and "whiny". Make a great product and combine that with a great price (free) and people will come over to your side. Or build it and they will come as they say. Constantly trying to get attention by complaining all the time, will turn people off to your product.

    • Hi. As the title suggests, I can't access the forum on my phone. I'm using Edge on Android and when I try to navigate to the forum I get a "we value your privacy" popup and none of the buttons are clickable. It effectively stonewalls me from reading any forum content.
    • Honestly you're not wrong about AdGuard. Neowin frequently has lifetime license discounts for them and that's how I got my cheap family license a few years ago to run it on all my devices.
