Evanescence new Album?

I think the whole idea of "selling out" doing the "media way of making a record" don't really exist except in a fan's mind.

It's all fine and good then a band gets too big and sells out and supposedly leaves it's fans behind. Well basically I think this doesn't actually happen, but in reality it's some kind of minority thing, or anti-mainstream movement. It's all good to like something, new, underground, or unique, Until everyone else likes it then those very same people who liked it turn on it for no other reason other than it's "mainstream".

The whole thing just makes no sense. I have a feeling that if Lacuna Coil were to somehow all of a sudden go "mainstream" that alot of thier fans would leave to, and not because thier music sucks, but because the fans who activley seek out little known music in certain genres aren't necessarilly looking for great music or whatever, but are merely looking for something that other people aren't listening to so they can feel better about themselves and how unique they are.

Me I'm taking a wait and see attitude on this album, but I'm sure it'll be better than ny Lacuna Coil offering, because I'm not a huge fan of thier lyrics. Evanescence seemed superior to them so far from everything I've heard from them both.

I think you fail to see the point that mainstream is not the same as well known and that non-mainstream is not the same as underground, you can get big.

Lacuna Coil is hugely well known in europe and I dont see fans complaining, and, about your opinion about them, well, I cant argue with that because its, like I said, your opinion, but then I dont know how you can compare them if you dont know Lacuna Coil that well (like you said)

I didn't mean it as a good thing. I just meant the old "Rock Star" persona that people used to percieve. It was especially big in the 70's and 80's, everyone wanted to be a big rock star. The movie called Rock Star is an example of what i'm talking about. No, I don't support what the music industry is doing by making music that appeals to the masses. It is however what is happening on a daily basis for quite some time now. There are exceptions to the rule as you've mentioned.

Tool isn't my favorite band, but I respect your devotion to their music, and I understand what it is to have that feeling about a certain band. Bands like Tool, Metallica (Metallica being my favorite band) have proven themselves over and over again with their music. They both have the freedom to do what it is they want to do. They can make their music, not have it sell well, and still draw in massive audiences at concerts (where all the money is truly made anyways) Why can they do that? Respect and devotion from their fans. They'll both stand the test of time, for years to come.

Things are different now, than they once were. Being liked by the masses is what these bands have to do to stay afloat. I don't like their strangle hold on the artists. Especially Clearchannel, who is known for taking out bands at the knees when its something they don't want.

I'd like to believe in a perfect world that bands could start at the bottom playing clubs, and working their way to stardom by doing things their way, and their way only. This is why we need to boycott the things that are happening out there now. My hope is that the bands that change themselves to get the break they need, will eventually have the freedom to do things their way. Selling your soul to the devil is a terrible way to acheive your goal, but what else can they do? That's what I'm hoping with bands like Evanescence. The talent is there, and hopefully with the success comes the freedom to take things more in the direction they want.

No I own 3 LC albums, I know they're big in Europe, but here in the States they're not that big at all(Although I think they did tour here this year). I just plain think Evanescence is better, I think Amy Lee has better vocals, although LC's Scabbia is hotter, I think Evanescence has better writing, and a better sound, that's how I'm comparing them.

Now of course I'm not necessarily right since Art is all subjective, so I'm not trying to say liking one over the other is wrong.

My mainstream comment however is a trend here in the US that I seem to notice, I'm not going to even pretend I know how it goes down in other parts of the world, because I don't have a clue. I checked out some kids today selling back a bunch of small band cd's and instantly realized they were posers, so when I asked where their Britney Spears cd's where they replied "dude, we soo aren't mainstream". They're the people I mean, the ones who truly sell out in a strange quest to not sell out with the rest of the masses.

you see? thats why I like to talk with you.

To be honest there are still certain recent bands that are going to keep rock in a good level, bands that like you said started playing in clubs and now, they are huge but not mainstream, Radiohead is the oldest example, Sigur Ros next to them, I think europe has the key for the next classic music (well, they have it since the 70's :p) I suggest you to give some of those bands a try, so, I think its still possible to bands to become huge and still maintain themselves

@:

i wouldnt say its gonna be mainstream, and therefor bad (there is good mainstream music...). id listen to it before i judge it.

but still, you might b right.

i have two of their albums, and they are pretty much different... weird. i guess youre right, but some people might consider the new sound even better.

^^ i wouldnt go that far.

^i wouldnt compare evanescence to beatles.

i'm not comparing their music but the truth is Ringo Star is THE WORST DRUMMER EVER!!!

*don't mind me*

now seriously... the reason i made that statement is that many people don't think Evanescence has any talent, just make some catchy tunes, suck, sold out and **** but just think about the beatles, their talent wasn't anything special and they made some ****ty catchy tunes (*thinks obladi oblada) so it's kind of the same but no one is comparing the music or the decade here.

Just because Evanescence is *popular* you people have the need to say their music sucks, if you wanna say something sucks just talk about britney because i bet she can suck pretty well.

*again don't mind me* my opinion is the suxxors and whatever

Hmm, no they suck. I hate mainstream, wanna know why? Because you're right all it takes is a "Obladi Oblada. I mean come on Nightwish is 100x better sounding then Evanescence, and so is Within Temptation. Where are they? Still in Europe because America's mainstream taste in music is bad. People don't even like rap for the lyrics, they like it for the beat. Do you see what is wrong with that picture?

i didnt know nightwish werent popular in america.

it actually surprised me to see them over here on tv.

yeah, america sucks :p

Lacuna Coil - Heaven's A Lie is better. Oh and what is this? They also have an acoustic version of the song Lacuna Coil - Heaven's A Lie - (Studio Acoustic). Really don't say mainstream is good until you've heard underground or other stuff that isn't mainstream in the US.

Growing up with REAL rock music from the 60's to the 80's, I can't stand what they call "rock" nowadays. After the meltdown of the Seattle-based garage bands, there's probably more crap out there than the music industry knows what to do with. You never hear anyone quoting most lyrics from the last 10 years, but I'll bet everyone here knows Beatles lyrics. One of my gripes with modern music is that there are a LOT of bands that burn out too fast, whereas the opposite was true when I was growing up. People lasted FOREVER, to the point where they're STILL writing and touring.

Today's music is so prefab; I can't stand it. That's why I like Evanescence so much. They seem to really take those rock roots and use them without sounding like every other pseudo-rock band that's out there now. There are people that think Nickleback or Queens of the Stone Age are the best things to happen to rock and I just roll my eyes and listen to some Eric Clapton.

I'm not saying that Evanescence is the end-all, be-all of modern rock, but they are a refreshing change.

Mike

See, I've always felt that Nickleback and Effernesense, effervensese, effing whetever were on the same page. Junk.

Effervesense isn't crap? I've never understood why anyone could listen to them...

Of course, I've only heard that one song that they play obsessively on the radio, so maybe I can't judge them fairly.

AH! That's how most of the people judge music nowadays!

People say Nickelback sucks and **** but only listen to the singles and i say Nickelback is a very good ROCK band but people ONLY listen to the singles which get tiresome and aren't that great.

    • You've tried DuckDuckGo and Brave Search, now get serious with SearXNG by Paul Hill Over the last decade, it has become quite trendy to dump Google Search in favor of privacy-preserving alternatives such as DuckDuckGo, Startpage, and Brave Search. These search engines have done a very good job at highlighting dodgy practices by Google, such as adjusting search results based on what it thinks you’ll like (filter bubble) and stalking you around the web to advertise to you. While these search engines are good starting points when compared to non-private services like Google, there are still quite a few issues with them. For example, both DuckDuckGo and Brave Search require running non-free JavaScript in your web browser, which is comparable to running proprietary software on your computer, meaning you can be sure about what it’s actually doing in the background. Another issue is that these search engines are hosted on the respective companies’ servers, and you are using a service that you don’t control. Finally, DuckDuckGo, while offering privacy features, relies heavily on Microsoft’s infrastructure for its results and, in the past, has permitted Microsoft tracking scripts. If you are looking for a more private search solution than DuckDuckGo, Brave Search, and Startpage, then I recommend taking a look at SearXNG. It is a privacy-respecting metasearch engine that can be used via different public instances, which is useful for mobile users, or you can install it on your computer or server and run it locally with maximum control. Unlike Google, Bing, or Brave Search, which crawl the web and have their own search indexes, SearXNG is a metasearch engine, meaning it taps other search engines, stripping your identifying data, such as IP address, user agent, and cookies, in the process. Your search query is sent to the other search engines you enable before aggregating the results. SearXNG has deployment flexibility. If you are a casual user or a mobile user and don’t want to run SearXNG locally, you can use a public instance that is hosted by someone else. The main problem with this is that you are putting trust in the maintainer of the instance regarding stuff like logs that they may keep; good hosts should have a privacy policy explaining their policies. If you are trying to use SearXNG, you can also install the software on your device and then head to 127.0.0.1:8080 in your browser and search from there. While you don’t have to worry about a third-party admin like the public instances, search engines could ultimately block your IP address if they frown on you pulling in their search results locally. If you want to run it locally, it’s a good idea to use proxies or VPNs to hide your actual IP. You don’t have to worry about this with a public instance, as search engines never see your IP address. The main privacy benefit of using SearXNG is that it isolates your identity from the underlying engines that it’s capable of searching, such as Google and Bing. These search engines will only see requests coming from a generic server, so they can’t profile you and create a bubble filter that influences what results you see. This also ensures that your search engine doesn’t turn into an echo chamber that prevents you from reading alternative points of view. As a free software project, you are allowed to inspect SearXNG to make sure there are no negative features bundled inside. This sets it apart from the privacy search engines mentioned earlier because you can’t check their source code. As a meta search engine, you are not restricted to getting results from one source. Due to the fact that it scrapes content from other websites, your SearXNG instance will periodically get blocked from different providers, so it’s good to select a range of sources as a backup. While enabling all of the services will give you great results, this can make searching slower. I am personally happy with slower searches for the best results, but you can always check which providers are slowing down your search from the search results page and disable them to speed things up. If you want decent results quickly, enable the main search providers such as Google, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Qwant, Bing, and Yahoo. This way, you get wide coverage without the latency. On the Engines tab in Preferences, do note that there are different tabs, such as General, Images, and Videos, with their own providers that can be toggled and are not covered by "Enable all" while on the General tab, so be sure to dig into each. Just a note, if you want to enable everything, press "Enable all" in one tab, then hit save at the bottom of the page, then do the next tab, and so on. If you press "Enable all", then do that in each tab, and then save, nothing will stick. When I had just some of the search engines enabled, I searched “define nefarious” and results came back with the definition of “define” - obviously that was a sucky result. However, when I had everything enabled, it found dictionary pages for the word “nefarious” and even had an inline definition on the sidebar, which is quite nice too - that was delivered by WolframAlpha for anyone wondering! Probably the worst thing about this meta search engine is that the engines you select are saved with a cookie, so you must enable them on every new device you use SearXNG on, including if you decide to go into incognito mode with your web browser. Honestly, I would say this is the most annoying aspect, and perhaps if your browser lets you choose a separate private browsing search engine, then it would be best to use DuckDuckGo for this portion of your browsing. Another weakness of SearXNG is the random blocking of it by search providers. When you are on the results page, expand the “Response time” box, and it will show things like “Suspended: too many requests” or “access denied”. This is why it is good to enable several providers so that there is always a fallback to get results from. I won’t pretend SearXNG will be for everyone, however, if you enable all of the providers and put up with the slower response time, the results can be really amazing. Even if you don’t want to use it as your daily driver, keeping a bookmark handy that links to it is a good idea if you ever feel like doing a deep dive into a niche topic where other search engines are just failing to bring up any good result, due to the amount of sources it looks on. If you’re interested in radical user control over the software you use, installing SearXNG locally can also be a good idea, but be prepared to be temporarily blocked from sites if you trigger bot sensors without a VPN. Personally, I’ve opted to use a public instance, rather than install it myself. If you want to use it via a public instance, head over to searx.space to find a provider. Let us know in the comments if you have used SearXNG or its predecessor, Searx. What do you think about the quality of the results?
    • Dear Neowin, If it is not too much trouble, can you start using the new-ish designations for Insider Preview? "Experimental" is different than "former Dev" as it can apply to different models, eg 26H1 or 26H2 etc, right? No need to seed confusion IMHO. And, please "finally" update your graphics. OK?
    • Did you see their FAQ, its quite good. Have a look in the Advanced section. https://delta.chat/en/help
    • Just install Linux Mint that is a real blessing and many times cheaper because you can continue using your old Windows computer/laptop with the latest Linux updates.
    • Interesting share -- however it does not make sense: Email messages get stored somewhere, so how is Delta Chat "based on email" and decentralized without actually storing anything? By Web3 standard practices, the various Relays would require dedicated storage to make messages available to the recipients (like a large series of message queue channels, akin to racks of traditional post office boxes)... and Contacts must be two-way confirmed in order for encryption keys to be exchanged (ostensibly every key-pair is uniquely bound between sender and recipient) and the Relays would preserve the public keys in order to facilitate message carriage... or every device stores all sorts of keys and contact info. All of this to say, decentralized messaging is like running Bluesky nodes except instead of discovering/browsing public feeds by various posters (at the given node) these Delta Chats would be relaying encrypted messages (via Relays) that only trusted recipients would have the appropriate decryption key (their own private key) to read it. But this doesn't solve the "it's like email" sales pitch. The only way it's like email is that there's encrypted binary stuff being transported from your app into the federated ether of Delta Chat Relays for others to decrypt (hopefully only the intended recipient)... but outside of this federated relays framework, it is absolutely nothing like email.
