OPaul
Tarantino? He's only directed about 5 films, no where near the caliber of the others there. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/189682-who-is-the-better-director/#findComment-2475212 Share on other sites

jymi
they are all great/good directors but to me i guess it depends on the genre and storyline of the film Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/189682-who-is-the-better-director/#findComment-2475235 Share on other sites
hadiz
Yeah, it all depends what type of movie you prefer. I'd go with Spielberg. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/189682-who-is-the-better-director/#findComment-2475254 Share on other sites
FiREFLi
I did a null vote, I have no idea who directs what films, and have no desire to learn. I had heard all of their names before, except Kubrick. However, I only knew Speilberg as a film director, oh and Hitchcock rang a bell in the films department. If I'd have voted it would have been for Speilberg I suppose. But I didn't, nevermind eh. QuantumTrickery
Its like comparing apples and oranges. Sure they are both fruit, but completely different. Same with the list of directors. Each has their talents and what they excel at. But putting Tarrentino on a list with those other greats? What a waste, to be honest. So many far better directors, not to mention far better at doing what Tarrantino yanked his ideas from to begin with. Fotix
I'd swap Tarantino for Martin Scorsese. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/189682-who-is-the-better-director/#findComment-2475388 Share on other sites
lifesize loudsound
You do have to admit, though, that Tarantino is pretty brilliant in the same way Beck is brilliant. He takes old things, recombines them in new ways and comes up with something fresh. We will have to give Tarantino some time, though, to find out if he can continue to be brilliant for decades, like many of those other directors have been. I voted for Kubrick though. But all those guys are very enjoyable directors, although I'd agree that Scorcese needs a place up there. James Cameron?!? AgEnTsMiTh
There are many more to add to that list. I like Cameron, but best director? I think not. I love Tarantino and I am a HUDGE FAN but He has not been around long enough to add him to that list. matt74441
James Cameron was good back in the 80's and early 90's, but I lost a lot of respect for him after Titanic. CrimsonBlur
If you're going to put someone like James Cameron or Quinton Tarantino on there you might as well include Ridley Scott as well, and it is a CRIME that Scorcese isn't on that list. I voted Speilberg. In my opinion he is the best over-all director, and Ridley Scott is very good as well. Tarantino, Hitchcock and Kubric have so much of their own style that (for me) it actually makes THEIR movies all too similarly made. Speilberg does an excellent job of making all of his movies VERY different. Think about it: Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, AI, and now The Terminal (to mention a few). All of those movies are very different except for Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. They all have his style mixed in, but most of his movies are radically different.
