So this is pretty much a program like Adobe Photoshop Album and JASC Paint Shop Photo Album? I think Adobe gives away their starter version of Album 2.0, which is supposed to be pretty cool.

I don't remember hearing much about Picasa before. Odd. But I pretty much just use Paint Shop Pro 7 and a folder hierarchy that makes photos easy to find instead of depending on an index app like those mentioned above.

But free software is way cool. Nothing wrong with free goodies. (Y)

Google made it FREE and I would have never used it before because it wasn't. I'll give Lifescape credit for making a good product but part of the reason it is great is because of the Hello (Blogger) support.

I downloaded it yesterday when I saw a link on the google frontpage.

It is very high quality software and performs GREAT. But it is lacking some features to help it completely replace the Windows XP Picture Viewer.

For example it has no 'image zoom' feature. I think that is a very important feature for ANY image viewer/organizer.

For viewing photos, it is very good. The "Media detector" isn't all that much of a resource hog, and it's fast!

Two things I'm missing:

- The ability to drag an image to another application (photoshop)

- Zoom feature

- Brightness/saturation

Other than that, the "auto-enhance" feature as well as the red-eye remover works GREAT. I will recommend this to all my friends with a digital camera. ;)

ACDSee 6 still blows away Picasa. I guess we'll have to wait for version 2.0.

I tried ACDSee years back but it had trouble with graphics headers for some formats so I used other software. I should probably give it another shot. But Paint Shop Pro has a Browse feature and helps make image management pretty easy since you can make, drag and drop folders as you browse to help organize things the way you want.

      I understand Microsoft's intention here, at least I think I do. There have been so many printer driver related problems over the years due to OEM printer drivers not be compatible with the latest Windows update, that Microsoft wants to eliminate those by controlling the printer driver updates and keeping them compatible with the latest Windows update. That is okay as far it goes, but what it can do is put limitations on printers that wouldn't be there with OEM drivers since the OEM printer drivers are not universal drivers. It's a tradeoff and one can only hope it doesn't turn all Windows printers into $69 Brother printers.

      Vivaldi is a very unique browser. It's the only chromium based browser that has its own powerful and fully customizable UI. It even supports CSS like firefox based browsers do. If someone wants a powerhouse chromium based browser, Vivaldi is actually his only option. All other chromium based browsers just tweak the vanilla chromium UI. It also comes from an ethical company that has proved its ethics all these years. Something very rare in the chromium world... (all other companies which develop chromium based browsers own an ad company, Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera etc).

      While I agree that in some instances you should be wary of the government, shouldn't we also be wary of corporations that have the money, reach and power of many governments? Having good regulations is essential for population protection (from corps trying to make more money than the other guy). At least we can vote in and out governments, but these days your choice of consumer tech is now only a few very large players. And we also know "consumers" are idiots and need protecting, it's literally the government's job to deliver those services.
