Guidelines for Support Requests

Recommended Posts

In order to get help faster for your Mozilla related support request, we ask that you follow these simple guidelines in order to get a faster and more complete response.

First off, you may want to use the search function, perhaps your question has already been addressed. If not, feel free to post with the following guidelines.

Post your build information and OS with your request

Mozilla software acts differently depending on what OS you're using and what build you have, so it is important that we know what this when you ask for help. The easiest way to do this is to open up up Firefox/Mozilla/Thunderbird and go to Help > About and copy the whole version string at the bottom of the window. It will look something like this:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040715 Firefox/0.9.1+ (if you are using a custom build make sure and include that part of the information, it'll look something like (bangbang023) added at the end of the build info.)

If you cannot open the program, try and include as much information as possible. Something like: I'm using Windows XP Home SP2 with bangbang's July 13th build.

Include a list of any installed extensions

If you're having problems with an extension, list other ones you have installed. Sometimes extensions can conflict with each other. Also, if you just recently installed any of them, make sure and denote that. Firefox users can find this information in the Tools > Extentions dialog window.

Use descriptive titles

A post title of [FX] AdBlock not blocking ads (for example) is much more useful than "Firefox not working" when looking for questions to answer.

We'd like you to use [program] tags before your post, as it makes things easier to read. (Use FX for Firefox, SM for Mozilla suite AKA Seamonkey, TB for Thunderbird, SB for Sunbird.)
