ESPN's Sports and Music

Recommended Posts

got a little rant here..

what is ESPN thinking? if anyone has watched sportscenter so far this week, youll know they are doing a 5 part series on the relationship between sports and music.. they'll do a little report.. which is semi interesting, and i dont have a problem with.. but then they have a "musical" performance..

yesterday it was Kid Rock.. who just yelled "somebodys gotta feel this" over and over.. i wasnt feeling it..

and then just now, some rapper, talking about how hes got money, how he's "so fly".. WTF?

during both of these they showed random highlights ranging from Bill Buckner to Mariano Rivera.. highlights that have nothing to do with the song or eachother.

Tomorrow, Five For Fighting is going to play their song "100 Years". I'm just failing to see what these performances have to do with anything, and why they are taking 5 minutes of SportsCenter away from me, that could be filled with more or extended highlights and/or more analysis.

I saw that with Kid rock yesterday and just started scratching my head....I want to see sports not some idiot screaming "feel this".

I dont see the relation between sports and a worn out punk.

You notice, too, that they have the Times Square backdrop, just like MTV? ESPN is selling out, they've let it gone to their heads.

I miss the good ol' days of Chris Berman, Charlie Steiner, Karl Ravich, Keith Olbermann, Bob Ley, etc...at least ESPNews is available.

    • One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.
    • I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
    • I really hope the author's health is ok. Squirreling away a official backup of this software. Looks like the internet archive already cached a copy as well - https://web.archive.org/web/20...ldbit-soft.fi/software.html
    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
    • Never had a problem with TPM and started using that many years ago in Win10. Through several motherboards and OS versions, it just does what it does without complaint. My games library doesn't even know it's there. Secure boot does a lot more than support anti-cheat, as it came along long before anti-cheat software. I've used it religiously since before I started using TPM, and I always liked it for being able to nullify virus contagions that try their best to come in underneath the firmware during boot, so that the OS doesn't see them, etc. That is its purpose, imo. I'll never understand why people who elect to use another OS feel compelled to run down Windows... I guess they need to do that to feel secure about their choices? I run Windows because it supports all the software (including games) natively that I want to buy, and I've never had to run down another OS to make me feel better about it. (Although it's certainly possible to do that, of course...) Win10 is on a ventilator atm, and Win11 is very close to being free, and I finally got to stop running StartAllBack as I moved to the Experimental/Dev channel and my 26300.8553 build supports the moveable taskbar and it's running fine at the top of the screen! Finally, my last major dislike of Win11 is being rectified! So, I'm not at all surprised to see Win11's share of the Steam survey hitting 70%.
