Doom III is out there! W00T!

5900XT is fine, I think its compareable to the 9800XT.

I have a 9800xt but my old GeforceTi 4600 knackered up my motherboard and screwed it for life, it seems, becauses no ATI cards work properly on it. Even after I ran Drivercleaner and all.

That sucks. Yeah, if your motherboard won't work with the videocard you have, you're better off just getting a new computer than putting in a new motherboard, since then you're going to have to change the RAM and everything else.

i'm amazed at how well this game performs.

xp 2500+

512mb

9800 pro

i have it set at 1024*768/high quality/2x AA/16x AF

it runs flawlessly and looks great! it seems to be more cpu dependant than anything else.

reallly? thats great coz i have a similar config as you. Waiting for my copy is unbearable  .

I blame Nvidia for a lot of my problems with my computer. Mainly the overheating problem(had to install 3 fans when once I needed no fans at all), then there was the constant crashing, not THIS. I bought an 9800xt and now I can't use it. The pinnacle of graphics cards wasted on me! All because of Nvidia.

As for putting in a new motherboard....that sounds like a process to me. Especially since I suppose I would have to replace the CPU.

There is hope for me though, since Doom 3 is configured to work with Nvidia.

:shifty: My 3dmark score: 5698 marks.

Everyone is so worried about not being able to run Doom 3, don't worry. The thing about the engine in this game is that it looks fantastic even at 800x600, and with low detail settings. Trust me. The only difference between the settings are just sharper graphics, but you probably wont care too much in the heat of battle..

Your system is fine, ive got a similar setup and I ran the Alpha demo at 1600x1260 (or whatever) and it ran very nicely, around 30fps I think (which is fine, thats the speed that movies go at).

:woot: Yeah, the engine is optimized to run even with terrible cards, but no one wants another FAR CRY debacle. :pinch:

Although my 3dmark score is terrible.

Speaking of Far Cry. I recently played it and set everything to the utmost maximum, and I have to say the human characters look much better than the Doom 3 human beings do. Ill post some screens to compare in a bit.

ok.. when i checked this thread this morning it was at 23 pages... how in the hell did it get to 81 already!?

because it got leaked, and now the whole world is playing it.

My plan tomorrow is to get up at around 9, go to the dentist and pick up some chinese food on the way out, go home, and by then it should be around 10:30 or 11:00. I then call EB to check if they got it in, if not, I go insane and wait it out another day, if they do have it, I immediatley drive over there and CLAIM IT.

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2 to finally get one of the most requested features by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft officially confirmed Windows 11 version 26H2 with the latest build, 26300.8697, for testing in the experimental Insider channel. The company also published more details about it mainly directed towards IT admins and system admins. Essentially version 26H2 will be delivered via an enablement package (eKB) over Windows 11 25H2. If you are wondering about some of the upcoming features in the next Windows version, one of them is certainly very interesting as Microsoft has confirmed it is finally bringing one of the most overwhelmingly requested features ever. March Rogers, the Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, recently highlighted some of the Search improvements that the company is testing, and during the interaction with users on X where he posted it, Rogers also confirmed that the company is working on disabling web search results inside Search. This is something which many users find quite annoying as Windows would often serve them links to Bing which it feels could be more helpful rather than bringing up the actual object or app the user may be searching for on their PC. Finally though the company is prioritizing local file search over the web. However the feature could not be disabled for many users as not all new features are immediately rolled out to everyone. Image via phantomofearth (X) Windows enthusiast phantomofearth who likes to dig deep into new builds uncovered the IDs you will need to enable these features. Using the following feature IDs the new Search-related features landing in Windows 11 26H2 can be used. Follow the steps below to enable the new Search experience on Windows 11 build 26300.8697: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id: and press Enter. Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to restore, repeat the steps above and replace /enable with /disable in the commands on steps 5 and 6. Delightedly and perhaps also expectedly, once you disable web search and other such bloat, the Windows 11 Search is said to get snappier as remarked by another Windows enthusiast Xeno.
