Doom III is out there! W00T!

the game just sucks. a huge disappointment in the sense that it gets very boring very fast. too linear. no versatility. *shakes head* wish i can get my $58 bucks back for this. Damn thing requires so damn much resource to cough up nothing but a %90 black screen. Let's not even get into the weak gun sounds. Blah... this'll be my last post concerning doom3, its a major let-down.

Exit DoomIII Enter Half Life 2

I've also heard that the 'Machine Gun' is the silliest weapon ever, not sure cause I havent seen it in action.

The 'Machine Gun', and I'm assuming you're referring to the smaller gun and not the chaingun, is basically just a futuristic version of the FN P90. It's fairly accurate, with the exception that the actual P90 has a *flashlight* accessory available for it. Other than that, it looks pretty much exactly like what you get in the game. If you've ever seen StarGate SG-1, that itsy-bitsy assault rifle most of them carry is the P90...and it's a real weapon, not just something made up for the show.

Here's a pic of the real thing;

I was referring to the smaller one, I dont have any hopes that my friend got that far in Doom3 yet... Hey thanks for the clarification.

I was thinking about that ebay auction that went up to $20 Million. I'm 99% sure the buyer isn't gonna pay. But eBay is gonna charge an insane final closing price. Something like 2% which comes out to $400,000. Haha. It's gonna be funny seeing the seller convince eBay that the buyer is a fraud.

Umm. Anyone have the link for that?

<<EDIT>>

Ahh. Found it! That makes it even better. $400,000 worth of ebay fees to pay.

Of course ebay's gonna let it go, but it would vex me to no end having to contact them because some jackass ruins my auction.

 Can't believe you guys can complain about this game. There is nothing like it out there at the moment, and it is meant to be the third Doom game, so of course it is indoors!

The darkness is annoying, but thats why you are given a flashlight. Its all part of the atmosphere.

IMHO I think this game rocks, and I'm glad I bought it (don't think I bought the first 2 :p )

What ebay auction?

I think the whole "Future" thing is lame. The weapons hasn't changed that much ... I've seen more advanced weapon in our time. And a regular flashlight? Man c'mon thought they have some visor with build in Nightvision or something.

It's only 140 years into the future, pretty realistic I would say for the amout of time.

Though I know for a fact that by the rate we are going in the U.S. right now, we won't get a station on mars with workers and such for a very long time, if at all.

:D WOW :D

I am so happy to have started possibly one of the biggest threads for Doom 3 anywhere? Actually, I am just guessing but it seems to be pretty damn big. Anyone know what the biggest thread on Neowin has been? Well, gonna play Doom 3 soon, just got back from vacation. Glad to see there isn't much bad feedback about the game :)

Just wanted to chime in and say I'm very happy with the game so far.

The graphics are great, even at just medium quality at 1280x1024, I rarely ever drop below 30fps, all encounters are smooth as hell and gameplay is never hampered by the framerate. I wasn't expecting this kind of performance from my stock 9700 pro and conservatly oc'ed barton 2500+(2.0ghz multiplier oc).

The audio from the onboard soundstorm on my nf7-S is great as well, even though I can't use the surround sound setup due to only having two speakers.

The multiplayer is umm there, not much else to say about that. It runs good enough on there once I connect but the game browser makes it a **** to actually cvonnect due to the filters not seemingly working at all.

But single player is real fun sofar. I'm playing on veteren and am only at the Alpha Lab and I really enjoy the game so far.

well iv finished a 2 room (1 one room on top of the other connected by ramp on teh side) with lighting player spawns (need to switch to DM spawn, and do the definition file). will actually start drawing out the map before hand though

the rooms are big

Doom 3 really kicks ass!! With my AMD 2500+ barton, Geforce 4 Ti4600 128 MB, the game runs very smooth at 1024x768 and medium settings. The tention and action is very very good and with my new Zalman Dolby Digital 5.1 Headphone the game really comes to life!!! It's a horror FPS and that's exactly what I expected.......ID Software you've out done yourself!!!!

    • Thank god they got rid of the disgusting looking sidebars, and the corner radius looks much better, too. Two things I hated on day one, and never got used to.
    • JetBrains launches Rider 2026.2 EAP 5, bringing several AI improvements by David Uzondu JetBrains has released the fifth EAP version of Rider 2026.2, bringing a faster startup flow with the new non-modal startup screen and quality-check hooks for Claude Code and Codex. In the latest EAP release, Rider now has newly bundled "quality-check" hooks that run background tests on code edits before the external agent proceeds. For example, after Claude Code rewrites a class, Rider immediately triggers a PostToolUse hook that analyzes the code for syntax errors and formatting warnings. It then passes those findings back to the model as feedback, allowing the agent to fix its own output before finalizing the task. If Rider detects compilation errors, the IDE prevents the agent from treating the task as complete, while minor formatting warnings simply help guide the model toward better output. The "Explain with AI" feature can now tackle tricky build errors directly from the console, helping .NET developers who frequently wrestle with multi-targeting failures and MSBuild errors. JetBrains introduced Explain with AI back in the 2024.1 release cycle. With this feature, instead of forcing developers to copy long diagnostics into a separate chat window, Rider now lets you trigger these explanations directly from the error source. In similar EAP news, JetBrains recently opened the first EAP for IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2, with features that appeal to both those who are into AI-assisted coding and those who prefer "classic" manual development. For manual developers, the release adds revamped dependency completion for Maven and Gradle build scripts, which pulls data directly from the local cache to suggest relevant versions. It also brings the Spring Debugger update, displaying security indicators next to endpoints to visualize secured routes during runtime. In addition to database migration tools for Flyway and Liquibase, this build introduces a Hibernate debugger that shows the exact SQL or HQL queries that the framework plans to execute, letting developers jump directly to the Java code that triggered them.
