duum III and how to enable Soft Shadows?

Recommended Posts

Shadows should be blured around the edges, and in most cases shouldn't be completly black but should blend with the texture it is laying on. i have a feeling enabling such a feature would cause the fps to suffer even more for most rigs. But it still would have been nice to have it as an option. I mean, part of what make computer games so cool is that developers can make the graphics in the game expandable for when newer hardware comes out.

that sucks , when I played far cry soft shadows were very well implemented on the object like barrels , you could see the textures underneath the shadows. It's a shame that doom III's advanced graphics engine doesn't support soft shadows.

Some of the hallways in Farcry with the lights swinging behind vents were great for that effect.

Am I missing something? Didint Splinter Cell implement this over two years ago on the XBox? They were dynamic shadows. You could have more than one light. THey would intersect and looked rather realistic. And they were "soft" to a certain degree. There was also no "blacking out," since you could easily see the texture below.

I think I am missing something here.
