FatCat
I know you guys are tired of reading Doom III in the subject so I miss spelled it, :p anyways I was wondering how I could enable sof shadows because the shadows cast from lamps for example are solid black blocking out everything which is kinda silly. PR.
I think what he means is the edges of the shadows are very sharp, when in the real world shadows blur around the edges. I upgraded to the 6800GT and my shadows are still sharp. It would look a lot better with soft shadows :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/199601-duum-iii-and-how-to-enable-soft-shadows/#findComment-584309692 Share on other sites

Shadrack
Shadows should be blured around the edges, and in most cases shouldn't be completly black but should blend with the texture it is laying on. i have a feeling enabling such a feature would cause the fps to suffer even more for most rigs. But it still would have been nice to have it as an option. I mean, part of what make computer games so cool is that developers can make the graphics in the game expandable for when newer hardware comes out. Menge
hrmm soft shadows is a very intensive effect. i dont think you'd like the amount of live lamps casting shadows to cast soft shadows. it'd be a pain to play :p (could be, visually, very interesting, though....) FatCat
that sucks , when I played far cry soft shadows were very well implemented on the object like barrels , you could see the textures underneath the shadows. It's a shame that doom III's advanced graphics engine doesn't support soft shadows. Furrybeagle
Am I missing something? Didint Splinter Cell implement this over two years ago on the XBox? They were dynamic shadows. You could have more than one light. THey would intersect and looked rather realistic. And they were "soft" to a certain degree. There was also no "blacking out," since you could easily see the texture below. I think I am missing something here.
