How much of a bummer is that, going back home after giving up, knowing your country worships you much like Jordan was worshipped in the US. Must be tough.

From Fightnews.com:

Corrales makes Freitas quit!

By Scott Ploof and Bill Luppert at ringside

Diego "Chico" Corrales (39-2, 32 KOs) won the WBO lightweight title by tenth round TKO over previously unbeaten champion Acelino "Popo" Freitas (35-1, 31 KOs) Saturday night at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Freitas won the early rounds with movement and sharp, quick punching. Corrales began to connect in round five after Freitas seemed to slow down slightly. Both fighters landed good punches, but it was Freitas landed far more often. That all changed dramatically in round eight when Corrales trapped Freitas on the ropes and dropped him with a hard barrage of punches. Corrales stalked Freitas in round nine, finally flooring him again. Freitas was also docked a point in that round by referee Michael Ortega for spitting out his mouthpiece. After Corrales put Freitas down again in round ten, Acelino indicated that he had taken enough punishment and walked back to his corner. Official time of the surrender was 1:24 of round ten.

Glad Corrales is back on top again after being away for two years in the pen. One of my favs though I still dont think he can redeem himself in a bigger, craftier Mayweather.
