i lost my recycle bin...

Recommended Posts

i think i accidentally deleted it, i went to empty it and all of a sudden it was gone... i think i just quickly hit yes, thinking it meant empty, when it was actually for deleting the damn thing

i googled already and the registry adjustments, and using tweakUI and group policy editor.. none of them worked to get my recycle bin back

right click on desktop - properties - desktop tab - customise button

tick the recycle bin checkbox and ok it.

I presume it was a shortcut to the recycle bin you had?

edit: oops maybe not, *wasnt on xp at the time*

Now that would make sense, because I don't think you can delete the recycle bin, LOL !

Do what CoolioVendetta says, that should bring it back !

tried it all, none of it worked.

here is what twekeUI gives me

even tried enabling it through xsetup and registry, neither of those worked...

i'm not exactly a n00b here people,.. i know my way around windowsXP pretty damn good....

I didnt know you could actually delete the recycle bin

So, is the bin not showing up in the tree in windows explorer? Did you maybe hide it from the desktop using Tweak UI or something?

no, and no (not in the explorer tree, and didn't hide it, i need the recycle bin damnit

Sound like one of the app you use to mod the exe and dll file is partially responsible. See if they can reverse it.

erp - creech is my computers name, not the recycle bins.. i posted that pic to show that my recycle bin doesn't even show up in the list.

kwapster - didn't work, tried it.

hankyone - yes

jaron - i highly doubt that, it was there forever before it got deleted, and i know my way around reshacker, i didn't even touch anything to do with the recycle bin, except for the icons for it in shell32.dll

Ah bless. I have heard about this for years and years. The Recycle Bin randomly disappearing. This problem is usually caused by some Spyware/Adaware or trojan virus, but I know of recently that with some versions of windows and the sites you go on you can download a .dll file without knowing and it adds itself to the registry and to the Windows Directory telling Windows to hide your Recycle bin. Its not deleted, its just hiding. These are a few solutions that should fix your problem:

1. Download Lavasoft Adaware program from the Lavasoft website and scan your computer for Spyware/Adaware and delete it all and reboot your computer to see if the Recycle bin re-appears. If not try number 2.

2. Scan your computer for Viruses, after updated your Virus Definitions. If you don't have Norton or whatever download the Stinger tool from McAffee and use that to scan your computer as it is free, and pretty good. But Norton is the best really. Reboot if no luck move onto number 3.

3. Download a Trial of Tune Up Utilities 2004 from thier website and use this tool as your life saver. Firstly, dont go whizzing to the desktop section for answers! Go to the Cleanup and Repair section. And do both cleanups on your Hard Disk and Registry. Then go to Customize and Analyse and then choose SystemControl and then on the tabs to the left scroll down until you get to the Wizards tab and choose Correct Problems - Click Next on the wizard, and choose Interface - and tick, "The Recycle Bin icon is missing from the Desktop."

Tell me how you get on with it,

and that should be you sorted.

Best Regards,

JMann :)

running ad-aware again, doubt it will help, as i have run it a few times, as well and spybot

i do a virus scan every night (auto) at 3am, that means i highly doubt it is a virus... although, again to humour you, i will do it again

well i'll be damned... tune up fixed the damn problem!

thanks JMann!!!

    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.

    • This is of course "clickbait" WTF? It is literally your example but tech based. A "clickbait" title is a sensationalized headline designed to manipulate readers into clicking a link using things like "fear" rather than delivering objective facts. A "clickbait" headline also usually provides little value compared to the hype generated. How does this headline not qualify? It's a generic often reused headline that is overly sensationalized. Oh no! "millions" can't use this app anymore. It has no basic facts like what f*cking app. You read the article and it's the Samsung VPN which no one cares about and there is a million free VPNs. How are you defending this ######? Headlines like this (and among other things) make me read Neowin much less than I used to in the past. It's trash...
