markwolfe Veteran Posted August 28, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 28, 2004 no but my yum repositories might not be up to date. how do i add more? You can add more repositories by editing your yum.conf file. Going outside the 'official' Fedora repositories allows you to download xmms-mp3 and other such goodies you might want. Alex Shenoy
okay.....i've added some, but it takes so long to download all these package headers. Why?
markwolfe Veteran Posted August 28, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 28, 2004 I found that yum would take 2-3 times longer to find and identify dependencies than apt did on my Fedora box. It doesn't bother me, because I just do it in a terminal and go on about with my other computer tasks. I think downloading was just as fast - it is just the sorting it all out that seems to be more sluggish with yum. Now that you have yum, you can do a yum install synaptic and try out apt, with the synaptic GUI front end. (Y)
