Can anyone recomend a good, cheap computer?

My dad is looking to upgrade his computer and get a new one. I was thinking that he should go with an XP 2000 with an asus a7v8x or something. Anyone have suggestions for a good cheap computer. I want the motherboard to have agp because it's going to have a decent card in it just so he can play some games, i'm thinking a cheap 128 mb card.

Built in GF4MX IGP (nForce 2) and AGP8X slot if you want to upgrade. Not sure if it has soundstorm though, probably not cause it's not that popular and most boards don't have it anymore.

You can also try Dell however i find that eMachines gives you better value.

Have you considered building a PC on your own or at least finding out how to make one?

BTW there isn't a monitor included in the pricing of that eMachine.

actually I want to build it rather than buy a pre-made one. Sorry if I had some confusion there.

Just checkout newegg.com, and build your own system :) Look for the components that you really want, and then work around it. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which motherboards go best which for each process, just check out the reviews on the net.

how cheap is cheap? Be easier to recommend parts if you gave a rough amount of how much you want to spend

For the mobo, go with an Abit NF7

around $300 without a monitor. I don't want to use newegg because of the warranty. All I want to know is components that will work well together with windows xp, light gaming, and simple tasks. Would a 2400 sempron work nicely? What board and how much ram should i get? I'm tihnking 256

I dig Emachines for general office and home stuff. Not the best for gaming, but it is a very nice little setup for school or home office work and that kind of use.
