Use a hacked serial & lose your data

haha, i bet if microsoft decided to format your pc if you entered an invalid cd key wouldnt be met with such support.

i would still think it's acceptable, go out and buy the software if you don't want to something like that, it's worth the money. (and no, i am not saying you didn't buy it, i am just making a generalization)

The probem with MS doing this is that they already make registering and activation the product such a pain in the... that it encourages some people to use fake corporate keys, even though they have a legit one. At my office, we don't have a corporpate license and I hate havign to do re-installs or phasing out an old Pc becuase I always get stuck having to call and speak to someone (often times who speaks very little english, who the lies about where they are when I ask), just to get the computer up and running. I am for every means possible for apps deleting THEMSELVES with fake keys but the OS.

It would have been awesome if it had just encrypted the home directory, and you would have to register to get the unlock key...

Agreed. If you pirate, you deserve to be punished. The app only erased documents, music, etc. Atleast it didn't format the computer leaving it unusable.

yeh, but what about this

yer but like I said, what if someone gets your serial via some other means (trojan or something) or even a random keygen maker brings your serial up. then the next update you are ****** because this moron wants to keep his software safe...
i would never purchase this guys sofwar if it had this capability, think what a virus could do if this program was on your computer. this guy took it to far, and is probably going to loose alot of buisness because of it.

you call that a pita? you must be formatting computers on a monthly basis to have to call them up every time. whenever I need to reimage something, 99% of the time it re-activates with no phone call necessary online. the process takes oh about 20 seconds maybe. big hassle there...

that's called extortion.

personally I'd MUCH rather have my OS wiped out than my data. I can reinstall Windows no problem, but my data is 100x more precious. also who are you to decide how much someone should be punished for pirating?

hmm who/what did the CDRWIN person do?

Google is your friend. :)

He did different things, changing in different versions. One was acting like the program was burning valid CD's, but in reality the CD's were corrupt or blank after the end of the run, costing you a CD-R. He also deleted the program itself, corrupted the file system, deleted system files and a few other things, depending on which users you talked to. I believe he stopped eventually, but the damage to his reputation was done.

But isn't there a law that says that you can try any program for a few hours or a day or something and then if you don't buy it you have to uninstall it? If so, this guys' actions are not legal...

Not sure about this, though...

What this person did, I support him. Software piracy is getting out of control. When you use someone's result of hard work without legally paying for it, you deserve some punishment. I don't find this harsh in any way. In fact, the users should be thanking God that the software did not reformat the system, corrupt the system file, or in any way render the computer unusable (if I was a software programmer, I would format and delete everything in the user's computer if he is using a pirated key). The users tried to use his software illegally, and when they get their punishment, they whine, rant and grumble when it is entirely their fault.

He deletes the entire home directory.

Not only his program.

Yay! Sooo what if my serial number is purchased legit and it comes up as a hacked one?

I will sue him for every penny he owns! Drastic actions have drastic re-actions.

    • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Support was added for CUE sheets, WebVTT subtitles, etc. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 changelog: Updated LAV Filters to version 0.81-23-g6fadb Updated MPC Video Renderer to version 0.10.2.2540 Updated MediaInfo DLL to version 26.05 Updated MPC Audio Renderer Several crash fixes, bug fixes and small improvements. • No problems here using the new Outlook. In our company we started to default installing to users on new computers or when we're reimaging. But, if the user needs/ask for the classic one, we install it. Low reject rate at this point.
    • Yeah it's my only home/business computer. The Surface Pen magnetic Storage is on the left side, but it doesn't charge the Pen. I do the charging once every 6+ months by interchanging between 2 rechargeable AAAA batteries and charging the other via a USB A battery charger.
    • I have NO problem restricting minors having access to apps. Personally, I'd like to see the restriction extend to smartphones too, but that should be the parents anyway. But on the restrictions ? GOOD LUCK enforcing that. Between VPN's, side loading and what not, I'm sure kids will find a way around it.
